Draco's POV
Great. The last thing I wanted was to be this close to Potter. Then again he did kind of save me back there. I would have landed myself in detention if it weren't for him. We crept further down the corridor until we heard the sound of Filch's coughing down the hall. Then we heard his footsteps drawing nearer.
"Mrs. Norris, where are you," he croaked.
Mrs. Norris meowed in response and began trotting over to him. He peered into the corridor to see whatever his cat had been staring at only to find nothing. I gave a small sigh of relief after Filch had wandered off to his office. Just when we thought we were in the clear we heard footsteps coming from far off, and they were getting closer to our hiding spot. We saw bits of a swishing cape as the figure came into view, no doubt Professor Snape.
We both quickly looked at each other in fear hoping he wouldn't discover us. I immediately thought about what would happen if he did. He would tell my father. Father would write another letter, one way worse than the one I received earlier this morning. Or maybe he would do what he said he would... Come to my school.
"Or do I need to go all the way to Hogwarts to remind you how to behave yourself?"
The memory of that line in his letter burned into my brain causing my panic to rise.
My breathing started to speed up and get slightly louder. It must have been loud enough for Snape to hear because he turned his head and looked further into the corridor to see if he could find the source of the noise. That did not make my rising anxiety any better.
Harry's POV
I heard Draco's breathing pick up. It sounded like he was on the verge of hyperventilating if he didn't calm down soon. I didn't know what to do, but then I remembered how Luna had once calmed me down when I was in a similar state. I helped Draco down to sit on the floor and tried to speak to him as quietly as possible so Snape wouldn't hear me.
"Hey, it's okay. He can't see us," I whispered, barely audible.
"It's alright, shh," I reassured him once more.
He looked up at me with those grey, panic stricken eyes. His breathing had only started to quiet down, but still hadn't slowed down any. I had an idea that I hoped would help him a little more. I got my MP3 player and my earbuds out of my night robe pocket and picked an instrumental song and put the earbuds into his ears. I watched as he closed his eyes and focused on the music.
I watched him carefully to make sure he was relaxing. I've heard rumors of things like this happening to him before, but I had never seen it first hand. I listened carefully to his breathing, and finally it had started to slow down. He seemed to have calm down enough, and eventually he took the earbuds out and just sat quietly.
I looked around to see Snape still at the opening of the corridor. It Seemed Like he was waiting on something. Just then the classroom door Draco and I were right beside opened. Out walked Professor Lupin. He took a step right onto the fabric of my cloak and almost tripped. He caught himself on the wall, and his forearm had brushed against my invisible head. I was worried I'd end up in detention but instead he gave a small smirk and winked.
"Remus, there you are. I've been waiting." Snape huffed.
"I'm quite sorry Severus. I was grading papers and lost track of time."
"Well, you'd best get a clock if you want to make sure your secret stays concealed," Snape hissed as he handed Professor Lupin a vial of a potion.
"Well thank you Severus, and once again, I do apologize for keeping you waiting," he said as he and Snape began to walk in opposite directions.
As Professor Lupin drew nearer to his classroom door he stopped in front of me and Draco, though we were still hidden by the cloak. He looked in our direction and chuckled.
"Just like your father, Harry. Now off to bed," he whispered quietly.
After Professor Lupin went back into his classroom we waited to make sure Snape was far enough away. After we were certain he'd gone Draco threw the cloak off of him and stormed off towards his dorm. Not even a thank you, though it was no surprise. I crept back into my dorm and went to sleep. That night my dreams weren't really even dreams. It was like a replay of the night's events. Those moments ingrained into my head, playing in a loop.
(Author's note: sorry if the chapters are really short I just don't want them to get too long, and I don't want to just make a whole bunch of useless parts in the chapter that don't add anything to the plot)
