9. The Dark Wizard

It was the first lesson of the St. Heart day, and it was usually the most boring. The class was still half asleep and not concentrating on what Mr Flatly was saying. However, Alex, Tom, and Roly found themselves sitting up straight in their chairs, hanging onto every word that came out of Mr Flatley's mouth.

"Luke raised his sword to the heavens of a distant silhouette, foreboding sky bid you welcome tomorrow, he declared to his friends, for tomorrow will herald a new opportunity to defeat evil" Mr Flatly closed the book he had been reading from and held it in front of him.

"Who would have thought that one day there would be 29 books in the series and that Blade Con would be taking place right here at St Hearts this very weekend?" Mr Flatly announced to the class. Alex and Tom looked at each other with smiles on their face. They had both started reading the series together when it first came out. So, it's safe to say they were massive fans.

"Headmaster, don't you think it would be better for the students to learn the classics?" Mr McNab said as he popped out from behind Mr Flatley.

"That's precisely the point, Mr McNab Blade's quest is a classic, the struggle between good and evil is a tale as old as storytelling itself, and Luke Blade sets a wonderful example for today's youth", Mr Flatly said as he walked between the desks.

"You can put me in chains, but you cannot defeat my spirit, you will not triumph this day nor tomorrow, good will prevail" After the end of Mr Flatley quoting a passage from the book, Tom and Roly stood up from their chairs and raised their arms. Although Alex did not stand from her chair, she did, however, say the quote along with Mr Flatly.

Thankfully for Dan, the bell rings, preventing him from hearing any more Blade Quest. The group collects their items and made their way over to their lockers.

This is where Roly challenged Tom and Alex to a sword fight, and Alex had to admit she was having fun as she got to attack Roly with her ruler.

"What's your problem with Blade Quest?" Zoe asks Dan as she sees the annoyed look on his face.

Alex only hears bits and pieces of their conversation as she is more concentrated on beating Tom and Roly with her ruler.

"When we go on missions, real lives are at stake", Alex hears Dan say as she tries to hit Tom on the head with her ruler.

"Hey!" Alex says as she feels someone grab her shoulders, pulling her away from her battle. She turned to see that it was Zoe who grabbed her. Before Alex could question why Zoe pulled her away from a battle she was so clearly winning, she then felt the buzzing in her blazer pocket, indicating that there was a mission.

They hurried over to the broom cupboard, and Alex scanned her thumb and pulled the broom, and they shot down the elevator, which changed them into their uniforms.

Once the lift came to a stop, the doors opened, and the team met Frank, who was standing in front of a hologram.

"There has been a spate of thefts of specialised scientific equipment from laboratories around the world." Frank informed the team as they looked at the images of the stolen items.

"Dan, that's what I want for my birthday," Aneisha said as she pointed at the red crystal.

"An amplification crystal?" Zoe asked as Frank made the image of the crystal take up the whole screen.

"Whatever goes in comes out the other side exponentially more powerful", Dan told the team.

"Is this an old case? It seems familiar," Tom says as he looks over to Alex to see if she could recognise it, but Alex just shrugged in return.
