Chapter 3, Part 1 - Roger's Thoughts

As Roger was grabbing plates, bowls, and wine glasses, he reflected on the rehearsal they had earlier that day. He had figured it out. The reason why everyone was acting so moody was because of Simon. He had made an offhand remark about how easy John's job was during concerts. Roger didn't think much of it at the time. He was kinda on autopilot during the rehearsal anyway. Simon was joking, but Roger was pretty sure John took it seriously. The remark made Nick and Andy slightly uncomfortable as well. Their more sensitive emotions didn't help anything either. Sometimes, Roger wished Simon would just stay silent during rehearsals. However, these tensions were nothing new.
About a year ago, they were touring in America. They had a rehearsal the day of their concert. They couldn't rehearse the day before, and it was imperative that they got a rehearsal on the actual stage. They were packing up after the rehearsal, and they started to talk about who in the band they would choose to be if they couldn't be themselves. Andy had said something along the lines of 'well obviously no one would choose to be Roger'. Everyone knew it was a joke, even Roger, but it still made him think. Why would he say that?. Roger swears he made more mistakes than he ever made during a concert that day. The band was high strung before concerts, and for some reason, being around each other made it worse.
Roger placed the tableware into a small bag that he had found in one of the cabinets. He carefully picked it up and strolled back to the main room, ready to eat. When he got back, he discovered that they had waited for him so they could eat with him. Andy and Nick were spatting about trivial matters while Simon and John sat there awkwardly. Roger sat the bag down on the floor next to the table and began putting the wine glasses neatly in front of each member. As Nick and Andy kept bickering, John poured himself a glass of wine. He refrained from taking a sip, only staring at the deep abyss of burgundy. He avoided Simon's eyes like they were the plague. Simon noticed but was oblivious as to why.
Simon took the bottle from the table and started to read the label. It read 'GALLO: CABERNET SAUVIGNON'.
