Roger started to head towards the phone, but John motioned him away. Roger complied, still with his mouth full of food. While John picked up the phone, Roger walked towards the table. He placed the loaf of bread near Andy, taking notice of his many papers of autographs. Then he pushed the mess of papers and other items, including Simon’s wallet, towards Andy. A few papers managed to fall to the floor. They didn’t stay there long before Roger picked them up and placed them back on the table. He snatched the loaf from Andy. He then sat down gracefully and started to peel one of the bananas.
John picked up the phone.
“Yeah?”
“Hey John. Sorry it took so long. There was a ton of traffic. You ready to hear the menu?” Jack asked. John could barely hear him over the continuous laughter coming from Nick, Simon, and Andy.
“Hold on just a tick.”
John covered the receiver with his hand and moved the phone away from his face.
“SHHH It’s Jack.” John scolded. Nick elected to be quiet. He gave Simon a light slap on the thigh, and he stifled his laughter.
“Okay, quite good now,” John said. It hasn’t been this quiet since they got home from the rehearsal.
Jack read the entire menu to John. It was stupid long, but John repeated everything back to the rest of them verbatim. Nick chose the fettuccine alfredo, unsurprising. Roger chose the lasagne. He actually didn’t mind getting Italian anymore, as long as he got an actual meal instead of some bread and bananas. John chose spaghetti; a classic. Simon and Andy both chose pepperoni pizza; another classic.
“Alright, is that it?” Jack asked. John thought for a second.
“Yeah I think so,” he replied. He thought a little longer.
“Actually, could you get some Caprese too?”
“Sure,” Jack said. Nick had mellowed and was now daydreaming about getting his pasta. An image of a fancy dinner popped into his head.
“Ooo, could we also get some red wine?” Nick directed towards John.
“Okay, yeah, could you also get us a bottle of red wine?” John said.
He whispered this next line as he didn’t want Nick or Simon to hear it.
“Yeah, just get the cheap stuff,” he said. John and Jack exchanged their goodbyes then John gingerly placed the phone back down. He walked back to the couch and sat in between Nick and Simon, as there was a large space in between them. He placed his arm around Simon’s shoulders and closed his eyes.
