Chapter 1

London Arrival

Reina

A MONTH LATER

London. The famous capital city of England. It is said it's always raining there, that the clouds cover the sun making it dark and depressing. At least that's what I've heard. I can't believe I'm moving from Puerto Rico the beautiful tropical island to London. A month ago I thought I was going go to college with my friends but my mom had other plans. I wasn't the best daughter with the sneaking out, the drinking, and my grades dropping. My mom apparently had enough of and said I was going to live with my sister Karina who I haven't seen in two years. That wouldn't have been a problem if she didn't live in London and if it wasn't her. Karina left two years ago when she was only eighteen to study in London for a year but she got a job and never came back. I always knew the real reason why she never came back. She can't face it. Now she works as an assistant stylist to a British band and now I was going to work for them as well. Karina had called to tell mom she had found me an internship as her assistant. Mom thought it was a wonderful idea, she thought that maybe this would help me grow up. She also said it was a good way to catch up with Karina. I didn't agree. The last thing I wanted to do was leave my life and friends to go work with my sister. Now I'm at the airport in London after eight hours of travel, waiting to get my suitcase. As I make my way to baggage claim I look around and instantly feel homesick. Things are so different here, I hear people talking in British accents. I feel out of place, I have really tan skin and auburn hair down to my rib cage and vibrant green eyes, while many of the people here are pale. A few people stare at me as I walk by. Finally getting my suitcase I go down on the elevator or should I say lift now that I'm here. The doors open and I immediately see my sister. It's hard not to notice her next to all the pale people around her. Karina has short dark brown hair that when the light hits it looks red and behind her glasses her hazel eyes seem to sparkle. She hadn't changed since I last saw her.

"Rei!' She screams as she crashes into me giving me a bear hug making the bag I'm holding fall. Well I wasn't expecting this.

Her grip is so tight I'm having trouble breathing. "Hey Kari, I can't breathe." I squeeze out. She laughs and releases me.

The smile on her face is welcoming and familiar. "Sorry I'm just so happy to see you. You've grown so much." Her smile getting bigger if it's possible and tears forming in her eyes.

I sigh."Well it has been two years sis, you haven't changed though." I look at her from top to bottom. At that moment all the anger and resentment I had against her for leaving lessened but didn't go away completely. She was still Kari my big sister and I love her and I know what happened wasn't her fault but I still blame her for leaving us, leaving me. I didn't realize I was crying until Kari lifts her hand to wipe away a tear.

"Don't cry Rei" She says embracing me, I can tell she's crying too because her voice quivers. "I've missed you so much sis!" I hug her hard crying into her shoulder. She places a hand on my back moving it in circles soothing me.

We let go and stare at each other. "Wow this is not how I thought this would be going" We laugh and it's comforting to hear her laugh. The tightest I've carrying in my chest all these years seems to be loosing its grip.

"Me neither. Come on lets go home my friends are waiting to meet you." She grabs my suitcases and I head into the unknown.

Karina pulls up to a very old looking house. It's actually quite beautiful. It's white, has blue shutters and a red door. They have different types of flowers growing in window boxes. As I get out of the car I hear the door open and turn around. Kari is talking to an older woman in her mid forties and she looks up at me and smiles warmly. The older woman has short blonde hair and dark blue eyes. I grab my suitcases out of the car and the older woman comes to help me.
