Chapter 17 - Three Year Anniversary

A WEEK LATER

"Good afternoon beautiful" This is the first thing I hear when I pick up the phone. 

"Good afternoon to you too...all though it is almost evening." I say petting Clyde's big soft head which is currently on my lap. He is laying next to me on top of the couch. 

"Are you and the girls coming to our rehearsal?" Niall had texted me yesterday inviting all of us to their rehearsal today. 

"Well I am most definitely going and so are Lee and Nova but I haven't seen Reina or or Karina today..." I haven't really seen them much this week. They've been acting quite strange. 

"Is that even possible? You and Rei share a room..."

"It is, when I woke up she was already gone and I got up at eight!" It was very strange I always wake up before her, always. 

"That's odd you'd think she'd sleep in after all the traveling."

"Yeah...she and Kari have been acting weird lately."

"Harry was saying something about that yesterday..." 

"Hey Nik, have you seen Rei or Karina today?" I look up to find Nova standing there. 

"Just a sec" I tell Niall. "No I haven't."

"I'm worried." 

"Why?" Her face scrunches up in surprise. 

"You do know what today is right?" 

"It's Monday..." I have no idea what she's talking about or why she looks so surprised. 

"How could you forget!"

"Forget what?" Her face goes serious and she looks sad. 

"It's December twentieth...."

My eyes go big at the realization. "I totally forgot! Oh god what is wrong with me?!" I'm a horrible person. It's the anniversary...they must be so sad. That's why they've been acting so weird. 

"Forgot what?" I hear Niall ask. I forgot he was on the phone. 

"That today is...Reina and Karina's dad's anniversary." I say slowly to let the words sink in. 

"You mean his death anniversary. Oh I'd forgotten they must be heartbroken."

"Yeah, look I'll call you later." 

"Right, I have to remind the guys...talk to you later love." He hangs up. 

I'm a horrible person. "How I could I forget something so important."

Nova kneels next to me and pets Clyde. "Mom said that they needed some time to themselves."

"She's right, they're hurting right now. They have to be alone." 

"Yeah, you're right." We are silent for the next few minutes. 

"Where's Lee?" I say trying to change the subject to something less sad. 

"Oh, she's with Liam. You know they haven't been apart since they told the whole world they were together." Ever since the movie premier Liam has had a watchful eye on Cleo. I think he's worried it'll be too much for her. They've both been bombarded with questions. The most popular subject is Danielle. Fans were really upset when they broke. Little do they know it was her fault they broke up. The fans were also upset when Louis and Eleanor broke up but that story is for another time. The fans seem to like Cleo at least for now and I hope they keep liking her.
