Chapter 6 - Avoiding Me At the Airport

The day has finally come, I can’t say I was looking forward to being in the airport for three hours doing nothing but sitting. I love to travel I just don’t like the waiting part. We got here at seven and it is now ten, it’s already dark outside. We are always the last to board the plane because of who we are. And I don’t say that to sound cocky or self centered but it’s the truth. If we were to board first all our fans would stop to take pictures and autographs thus delaying the plane. We’re in a private room, the girls are with us. Nik is on Niall’s lap and they are holding hands. Finally. They’ve been at it for a year now, I thought it would never happen. Reina is sitting next to Harry and Karina, while Cleo is next to Liam and Louis. Nova is sitting far away from me, she’s been avoiding me since the movie night. She notices I’m staring at her and sighs. “I’m gonna go to the bathroom.”She gets up and leaves the room in a hurry.

“Wait, Nova!” I follow her outside grabbing her arm, she tries to jerk her arm free but I tighten my grip . She doesn’t turn around to face me. “Everything okay?”

“Yes.” She barely answers still not looking at me. I step in front of her making her look at me.

“No it’s not! Why are you avoiding me. I texted you yesterday and you never replied and you’ve barely said a word to me today.” I say getting frustrated, she only shakes her head. “Look at me.”

She lifts her gaze to me and frowns, her eyes filled with hurt. “Nothing is wrong. I’m sorry.” She gives me a small smile and just like that she leaves.

I’m more confused than I was before. Why did she look so hurt? Ugh! I go back inside the room. I sigh and rub my eyes and run my fingers through my hair frustrated. I start pacing and notice everyone’s gone silent. I look up and they are staring at me. “Do any of you know what’s wrong with Nova?” I ask them trying to figure out why she won’t talk to me, maybe they know something I don’t.

“No mate.” Liam answers me and the rest just shake their heads. He knows more than he’s telling me I can see it in his eyes. But before I can grill him about it a voice over the speakers stops me.

“Flight 244 to New York City is now boarding” says the female voice from the speaker.

The girls all stand up and get their things. “Well we better go, our section is boarding and we have to do the line unlike you guys.” Karina smiles and takes her bag to the door. 

“See you later.” Reina waves from the door and the rest follow her and in a few seconds we are alone.

“They don’t know right?” I ask Louis who is now beside me. Yesterday we had decided to give them a surprise. 

“No, we haven’t told them, they’ll find out in a few minutes though.” He has a mischievous grin on his face.

A few minutes pass and it’s time for us to board. “Come on lads, we board in a few minutes.” Liam says picking up his carry-on and opening the door. We make our way to the gate with help from security of course. The airport supplied us with two huge men for our safety, they are over six feet tall and all muscle. I smile when I see the girls are still waiting. Nova has a dazed expression on her face. I wonder what she’s thinking about.

“Tickets please” says the blonde gate worker with a polite smile. Reina hands her the ticket. “Oh. Miss Flores I understand you’re with other people?”

“Yes, I’m with them.” Reina points to Karina, Nik, Cleo and Nova who are right behind her. 

“Please give me your tickets as well.”Nik, Karina and Cleo take out their tickets but Nova is still dazed and not paying attention. 

“Nova.” Nik elbows her sister and Nova looks up. “Your ticket.” Nova opens her bag and takes out her ticket and hands it to the woman. The woman proceeds to rip them and throw them away.

"What are you doing!" Cleo has an alarmed look on her face. Reina and Karina stare at what is left of their tickets.

The woman smiles and explains. "There was a change. These are your new tickets." The girls grab the tickets and look at them. Their expressions change from horror to surprise.

"You're going to have to wait here, first class is the last to board." The woman signals to where we are standing. They turn towards us and smile. 

"Hey girls everything alright?" Harry asks with a cheeky grin. 

Reina looks at him suspiciously. "You changed our seats to first class?" 

"We thought that it would be more fun if you girls were with us. So we changed your tickets. " Louis looks at Karina as he explains. Karina turns her head way and bites her pinky finger nervously, which Louis just chuckles at.

Niall grabs Nik’s hand and she kisses his cheek."Well thank you.” 

Nova has gone quiet and is far away from me again. She looks at me and when I look back at her she turns away. Why is she rejecting me? I haven’t done anything to her. I think. She plays with the strap of her carry-on. She has such delicate small hands, her nails a shocking pink. Her skin looks so soft and smooth and it reminds me of the night we saw the movie at the hotel. She looked different but beautiful and her legs looked long and sexy in that very short skirt. I had wanted to touch them but I resisted the urge.

“Zayn.” I look at Liam who is staring at me, I’d been so distracted I hadn’t noticed they had moved towards the gate worker. “Are you alright mate?” His voice full of worry.

“Yeah, just thinking.” I give him my best “I’m alright” smile and walk to the woman and hand her my ticket. Everyone is already walking towards the plane, Liam is behind me whispering with Cleo, she laughs.

I go in the plane and look for 27B. Harry is already seated when I reach my seat. Karina and Nik are behind me and Liam and Niall are across from me. Nova is in the very last chair, Louis is telling her something and she nods. They finish and Louis walks to me.

“Hey Zayn would you mind changing seats with me? I want to talk to Harry about something.” He says with a sparkle in his eyes.

I nod. “Yeah, yeah sure no problem.” I get up and take my carry-on out from under my seat.

“I was sitting with Nova.” I clench my jaw and nod.

“Does she know I’m gonna sit with her?” Louis looks at me and nods. I sigh and give him a smile and walk to his seat. “Excuse me.” Nova gives me a small smile and moves so I can get to my window seat. I sit down and she puts on her earphones and I can hear the beginning of “Want You Back” by Cher Lloyd. I sigh, this is going to be a long flight.
