Maya pulled up in her car, and Jameson leapt in, his eyes scanning the surroundings nervously. As they sped away from the mansion, he finally felt safe enough to speak.
"Maya, why did Ethan let me go?" he asked, still trying to process the horror he had witnessed.
Maya's expression turned grim. "I think he wanted to toy with you, Jameson. To make you suffer. Ethan's not just a monster anymore; he's become something far more sinister."
Jameson's mind reeled as Maya continued to explain. "The ritual we uncovered, it was meant to awaken an ancient power within him. A power that would allow him to transcend humanity and become something else entirely."
"But why?" Jameson asked, his voice laced with incredulity. "Why would anyone do such a thing?"
Maya's eyes narrowed. "Because they wanted to harness that power for themselves. To gain ultimate knowledge and control. But they didn't account for the cost."
Jameson felt a chill run down his spine as Maya's words sank in. "What cost?"
Maya's gaze was grave. "Ethan's humanity is gone, Jameson. He's no longer the man we knew. He's become a vessel for that ancient power, and it's consumed him completely."
As Maya spoke, Jameson saw the darkness in her eyes, a reflection of the terror she felt. He knew that she was struggling to come to terms with what had happened.
The silence between them was oppressive, heavy with the weight of their shared knowledge.
"What about the plan?" Jameson asked finally, breaking the silence.
Maya's expression turned determined. "We need to stop him, Jameson. We can't let him continue to harm innocent people. We have to find a way to destroy the ritual, to banish the power back into whatever hell it came from."
Jameson nodded, his mind racing with thoughts of the horror they had unleashed.
"We'll need to gather more information," Maya said. "Talk to the other survivors, see if they saw anything that can help us understand what happened."
Jameson nodded again, his determination growing with every passing moment.
As they drove away from the mansion, Jameson knew that their journey was far from over. They had to stop Ethan before it was too late, before he spread his dark influence further.
As they drove away from the mansion, Jameson turned to Maya and said, "I think I know what's been going on all along."
Maya raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"
Jameson's eyes locked onto hers. "I think Ethan is the one who's been following us all along. I mean, think about it - he showed up at the perfect moment, knew all the right things to say, and had access to all the information we needed. It was too convenient."
Maya's expression turned thoughtful. "That's a good point, Jameson. But why would Ethan be following us?"
Jameson leaned in, his voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "I think he's been manipulating us from the start. He knew we were getting close to uncovering the truth about the ritual, and he wanted to use us to achieve his goal."
Maya's eyes narrowed. "You think he's been using us as pawns in his game?"
Jameson nodded. "Exactly. And now that we've found out what he's really after, we need to prevent him from achieving his plan."
Maya's jaw set in determination. "We can't let him get away with this, Jameson. We have to stop him."
Jameson nodded in agreement. "But we need a plan. We can't just go in there guns blazing. We need to be smart about this."
Maya pulled out her phone and dialed a number. "I'm going to call Rachel and see if she knows anything more about Ethan's plans. Maybe she can give us an idea of what we're up against."
Jameson watched as Maya spoke with Rachel, her expression growing more serious with every passing moment.
When she hung up the phone, she turned to Jameson with a grim look on her face. "Rachel thinks Ethan is planning to perform the ritual tonight, under the light of the full moon."
Jameson's eyes widened in alarm. "Tonight? We have to stop him now."
Maya nodded. "We'll need to come up with a plan, and fast. We can't let him get away with this."
As they continued to drive through the night, Jameson couldn't shake off the feeling that they were running out of time. They had to stop Ethan before it was too late, before he achieved his twisted goal.
But as they approached their destination, Jameson noticed something strange - Ava was nowhere to be seen.
"Where's Ava?" he asked Maya.
Maya's expression turned worried. "I don't know. She was supposed to meet us here, but she never showed up."
Jameson felt a sense of unease wash over him. Had Ava fallen into Ethan's trap? Was she being used against them?
He glanced at Maya, his eyes pleading for answers.
