Jameson's eyes searched the darkness, his mind racing with worst-case scenarios. "Maya, what if Ava is working with Ethan?"
Maya's expression turned cold. "Don't even think it, Jameson. We have to focus on stopping him, not accusing our own allies."
But Jameson couldn't shake off the feeling. He remembered Ava's strange behavior earlier, her evasive answers and distant tone.
As they pulled up to the location where they were supposed to meet Ava, Jameson's anxiety grew. The silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the creaking of the old trees and the distant howling of wolves.
Maya killed the engine, and they sat in silence for a moment, waiting for Ava to appear. But as the minutes ticked by, there was no sign of her.
Jameson's gut told him something was wrong. "Maya, we need to get out of here. Now."
Maya nodded, her eyes scanning the darkness. "I think you're right. Let's get back to the car and regroup."
As they turned to leave, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was Ava, but something was off about her. Her eyes seemed... different.
"Hey guys," she said, her voice low and husky. "Sorry I'm late. I had a little detour."
Jameson's instincts screamed warning. "Ava, what's going on? You're not acting like yourself."
Ava's smile twisted into a cruel grin. "Oh, I'm acting exactly like myself. I've just been... enlightened."
The air seemed to vibrate with malevolent energy as Ethan emerged from the shadows behind her.
"Ah, Jameson," he said, his voice dripping with malice. "I've been waiting for you. You see, Ava here has seen the error of her ways and has joined me on my journey to true power."
Maya's eyes widened in horror as Ava's eyes turned black as coal.
"You're working with him," Jameson accused, his voice barely above a whisper.
Ava's smile grew wider. "I'm working with the future. And you're just going to be a small part of it."
Ethan chuckled, his laughter echoing through the night air.
Jameson felt a cold dread creeping up his spine as he realized that their situation had just gone from bad to catastrophic.
Jameson's mind raced as he tried to process the betrayal. "How could you, Ava? You're one of us!"
Ava's eyes never left his, her gaze cold and calculating. "I was just waiting for the right moment to make my move. And now, with Ethan's power on my side, I'm unstoppable."
Maya's face was a mask of shock and horror. "Ava, please... don't do this."
But Ava just laughed, the sound sending shivers down Jameson's spine. "You're too late, Maya. The die has been cast. And now, it's time for you to join us... or face the consequences."
Ethan stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with malevolence. "Yes, let's get down to business. We have a ritual to complete, and you two are going to be our guests of honor."
Jameson felt a surge of adrenaline as he realized they had to act fast. He glanced at Maya, and saw that she was already moving into position.
Without hesitation, Jameson followed suit, positioning himself between Ava and Ethan.
"You're not going to get away with this," he growled.
Ava sneered at him. "Oh, but we already have. You see, I've been playing you all along. I knew you'd fall for my act, just like Ethan did."
Ethan chuckled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Yes, Ava's been a valuable asset to me. And now that she's on board, nothing can stop us."
Maya stepped forward, her eyes blazing with determination. "You're not going to get away with this, Ethan. Not while I still breathe."
The air was charged with tension as the four of them faced off against each other. Jameson could feel the weight of the situation bearing down on him.
He knew they had to act fast if they were going to stop Ethan and Ava before it was too late.
Jameson's eyes locked onto Ava, his finger tightening around the trigger. He didn't hesitate as he pulled the trigger, the sound of the gunshot echoing through the night air.
Ava's eyes widened in shock as she stumbled backwards, her body crumpling to the ground. Jameson's heart pounded in his chest as he rushed to her side, his gun still trained on Ethan.
Maya's eyes were wide with horror. "Jameson, what have you done?"
Jameson's gaze never wavered from Ethan. "I had no choice," he said, his voice low and even. "She was going to kill us all."
Ethan's eyes flickered with surprise, but then his face hardened into a mask of cold calculation. "You're making a grave mistake, Jameson," he hissed.
The air was thick with tension as Jameson and Ethan faced off against each other. Maya crouched beside Ava, her hand hovering over her pulse.
Jameson's mind raced as he tried to process what had just happened. He had shot Ava, and now they were at a standstill.
But Jameson knew he couldn't let his emotions cloud his judgment. He had to think clearly if they were going to get out of this alive.
"Let's talk about this, Ethan," Jameson said, his voice firm but controlled. "We can work together to find a solution."
Ethan sneered at him. "You're too late for that, Jameson. The ritual is already underway. And with Ava's... assistance, we'll be unstoppable."
