CAROLINE
The ride didn’t take a while though. Ten minutes tops and we were out of the tunnel and thankfully my dad was out of sight by then. Still, my lips were tingling even after a while after the kiss. Zayn walked beside me keeping a close distance between us he still hasn’t said a word after the kiss nor had I. Should we just ignore it and pretend it hadn’t happened?
“So, did you call your aunt?” Zayn said conversationally.
“Uhhh, yes I did.” I smiled.
“What time will she be here then?” Zayn muttered.
“Around six or so it’s only just five so I suppose we have a few minutes.” I said.
“Great.” Zayn put his hands in his pocket and inhaled the frosty air.
The sun was just beginning to set in the horizon and it cast red and orange streaks across the sky. Zayn was looking up the sky too equally as mesmerized as I was. Without any agenda or thoughts whatsoever we ended up on the highest peak of the park where a lone tree was standing and a bench right beside it. Maybe it was supposed to be like a parents lounge or someplace adults could stay while the kids played.
“It’s beautiful.” I whispered as I sat down the hard oak bench with Zayn right beside me.
“It absolutely is.” He smiled but as I looked at him he wasn’t looking at the view or the sunset he was looking right at me.
“Thanks for the wonderful day Zayn.” I smiled.
“It maybe presumptuous of me to ask but would it be possible to see you again?” Zayn gave me a lopsided grin and in the warm orange light of the setting sun he looked like an angel grinning right at me.
“I don’t know Zayn, I honestly don’t know.” Life was too complicated but I didn’t want to continue on like this.
I don’t want to be in a relationship of stolen moments. A few minutes in a day just wasn’t enough, a few hours squeezed between schedules and meetings and shows wouldn’t suffice. The two of us weren’t meant to be. But why did I feel this way? Why did his kisses left me weak and trembling? Why did my heart pick up whenever he smiled at me?
“Do you ever wish you could be somebody else just for a second?” He broke into my reverie.
“More than anything in my life.” I sighed.
“I really wish you could stay for just a little bit longer.” Zayn moved a little bit closer from his end of the bench.
“I wish I could too but as you can see I can’t.” I pursed my lips.
“Can I at least have your phone number? Or even your email address?” He asked.
“No that would be unwise, if we continue to see each other it’d only bring harm to the both of us.” I said.
“Fine then, I’d just keep relentlessly adding you as a friend on facebook until you give up and accept my request.” Zayn teased.
“You could do that, but I could just block you.” I countered.
“Now, that would just be too mean.” He gave me a ridiculous puppy dog expression.
Zayn stretched and placed his head gently on my lap. He smiled up at me and I couldn’t help but smile back in return.
“Tell you what.” I began to run my fingers across his hair and in content Zayn closed his eyes and savored the feeling.
“Let’s not plan anything, if we meet each other again then it’ll just happen.” I said. Zayn popped open one eye and looked at me.
