I hugged her tightly before letting go, she collapsed into my arms and cried.
Damn how important was this grandma to her that she ended up crying because of being lied too? Like this grandma may not be immortal and is probably dead that's why she's so touched with the family heirloom.
I felt bad, I really did but I had to do the mission and get the family heirloom back, my family heirloom back. It didn't even rightfully belong to her, let alone her grandmother who refused to return it once we found out it was her who ended up possessing our family heirloom, maybe if she did give the heirloom back instead of being so stubborn and slamming the door on our face.
"Scarlet. I need to go and return the family heirloom, I'll be back. I promise."
I say as I look at her.
"Stay a little longer, please."
She says as her voice cracks again, my stomach feels like clenching again.
"I can't, you know I-"
Right then and there, she cut me off.
"Please, until I stop crying."
I looked into her eyes, it was red.
I felt so fucking bad, I really did. I did not know how the fuck I was going to tell her but shit just happened, I knew that it would not end well, and my predictions are always right.
I sighed in defeat and wrapped my hands around her.
This was the first time she was showing vulnerable side to me.
She looked so fucking beautiful no matter what she did, even when she cried she looked pretty.
I watched as she slowly fell asleep in my arms, I waited to hear her soft snores.
I gently picked her up in bridal style and tucked her into bed as comfortably as I could, once I knew she was tucked in I side eyed her closet before storming over and opening it.
I glanced at a white shirt and some jeans, it was perfect.
I wore it just to see the white shirt have something written in pink but at this rate I didn't give a fuck and just shut her closet before walking out the bedroom and made my way to her front door before leaving and insuring the door was shut properly so no one could break in.
I was honestly so fucking lucky that she lived right next to the beach as I made my way threw the beach to where the waters were, I entered it while glancing at the water as the waves kept on going. I then started to chant, the chant I said was used to contact other mermaids incase if a mission was done or something was important.
"Casper....Casper....All hail the Casper's....Casper's...Casper's....All hail the Casper's."
Soon after, the waves clashes grew higher a waves clashing could be heard while in the distances splashes and fins hitting against the water was heard, soon after many merman were gathered.
"Father."
I bow down as my father stood infront of me, all the other mermands standing behind him, hidden under the water incase any humans were to see or walk by.
"The heirloom, I got it."
I bring the heirloom up to my father as his eyes sparkled.
"My son, you did it."
He said as he smiled widely and pulled me up into a hug.
"Dad, make it safe...but first I want to talk to you about something."
He breaks the hug and looks at me.
"What do you wanna talk to me about?"
He says as I slowly hand him the family heirloom as he puts it around his neck.
"I wanna make a...contract for engagement."
All the merman's behind him gasp as my dad looked shocked.
"Engagement? Who?"
My dad whispered as he looked at me.
"Scarlet...Scarlet Larin."
I mutter as I remembered her name from her drivers license that she left on the kitchen counter once.
"The girl...from the mission?"
One of the mermans question as I nod.
"You wanna get engaged to a girl who was literally the main point of our mission after our family heirloom passed to her because of her grandmother?"
My dad said as I nod again.
"Absolutely not."
The merman's protest, they're probably trying to protect the family heirloom while the other merman's think I'm joking as they laugh as I stare at them, they immediately shut up.
"You're serious? You wanna marry some girl you met in the mission?"
The merman's who laughed earlier spoke as I nodded.
Their protests got louder as my dad raised his hands to stop them before looking at me.
"Do you love her?"
Immediately after that my eyes brighten as everyone gets quiet.
"Yes, I promise you father I do."
They all are in wide eyes.
"Does she love you?"
I know damn well he'd say no if he didn't, so I'd have to lie since I didn't know her feelings but this would be a white lie, right?
"Yes, she does."
That was a fucking lie, maybe truth? I never asked her and I don't know if she does.
"Well then..."
He turns around to the other merman's before muttering some words.
I stand there, hearing their mutters before they all back off and my dad turns to face me as the other merman's stare at me.
"We can make an engagement contract, but...you both have to follow some rules given in the engagement."
Immediately after that I hugged my dad tightly.
"Thank you, thank you father."
I say as I break the hug and smile widely, the other merman clap.
My dad looks at me before reciting some of the rules.
"A few rules are that she must stay near the beach, you both must stay near the beach in a place, secondly is that she would have to preform a ritual to be accepted, she has to stay low in all circumstances and make sure no one finds out about her being a mermaid or you being a merman, third is that no one should know anything about our species and if she leaks anything she'd be forced to stay at home."
He recites some more stuff before looking at me.
"I hope you know what you're doing."
He says as he gives me a pat on the back while the other merman's clap to congratulate me for my dad accepting my engagement.
She'd probably decline it, but if she does I'll make sure she signs it, even if its out of her will.
Once I made sure the merman's and my dad swam away, far from shore and in no danger I turned around and started walking back to the house as I admired the sand and the sound of waves clashing.
I entered the house by the window before shutting and locking the window since I couldn't access the door without a key.
I see Scarlet still asleep as I made my way to the bathroom to wash my feet while watching her as the water clashed against my feet and brought sand to the drain, once done I made my way to the mat as I wiped my feet making sure they were dry as I left the bathroom I also turned off the lights and made sure all doors were closed, the front door and windows locked before making my way back to the bedroom to see her asleep.
I didn't realize I was smiling at all as I made my way and hopped into bed beside her before draping my hands against her waist and pulling her towards me, hugging her as she was sleeping, tomorrow morning my tail would be back since the chanting only transforms my tail into legs for a few hours before turning back into a tail, I can preform this how many times I want or I could always put on the family heirloom necklace to have legs for how long without a problem.
I fluttered my eyes shut and nuzzled my head into her head as I tried to sleep, my heart was beating loudly at the fact I knew my dad accepting the engagement, I knew few merman's might be against it but accept it anyways. My dad seemed skeptical but I'm glad he gave me a chance.
Slowly, I fell asleep while having her in my arms as I thought about the engagement contract.
