i got to safa's apartment at exactly 10:30am to pick her up. she was coming with me to pick up the kitten whom i'd be calling luna.
i parked outside of the entrance and texted her that i was here. conveniently, she was standing in the lobby waiting for my arrival, so it didn't take her long to get out. she jogged to the passenger side door and opened it, excitedly jumping inside. we said hello and i started the engine to start our journey to my friend's house.
my friend, sophie, has been breeding cats her whole life. she lives on a farm an hour west of copenhagen, which farms beef cows, pigs, and chickens. she's a vet in the town she lives in but still lives with her family so she could help them take care of the animals on their farm.
"do you know which cat you're adopting?" safa asked.
"yeah, the smallest one of the litter. she's so cute!" i raved. she giggled.
most of the ride was spent jamming to our shared road trip playlist. we put songs we really like and could scream to on the road. the only song we had to skip was miroh by stray kids because twice in my first year of university i got into minor accidents with that song.
the first time it was the end of fall break and i was heading back to copenhagen from billund and i hit the curb somewhere in billund. that's obviously not bad and could've been more serious—the bump was just really bad.
the second time was a bit worse; it was nighttime and i was on my way to billund for easter break, when i wasn't paying attention to the road and i accidentally veered into the metal barricade on the highway. to say the least, my dad wasn't happy with the damage on the front of my car.
i might also have to ban sticker by nct 127 from my car soon because as i was pulling into my parking spot at my apartment i accidentally went a little too far in and hit the wall. it was just a scratch, though!
we arrived in mørkøv about an hour later and pulled into sophie's farm's driveway. i texted her to tell her that we were here, to which she said she would be a minute because she was rounding up the kittens.
"have you told lee about your kitten adoption?" safa asked, smirking.
i rolled my eyes and scoffed. "yes! he has cats himself."
"really?? and you said 'cats', how many does he have?"
"three."
"you're meant to be!" she cheered, throwing her hands in the air out of excitement.
"no! never!" i grabbed her wrists so she could stop.
sophie texted me saying she was ready. i took my carrier out of the backseat and slid it onto my shoulder. safa and i walked up the old, worn wooden steps and knocked. sophie unlocked the chipped red painted door and gave us a warm smile.
"hello! i'll lead you to the kittens." she used her free hand—her other one was holding her pet bunny—to guide us to the room her kittens were being housed in.
it was at the back of the old farmhouse, but not a long walk as her house wasn't huge. she opened the white door, making sure to block the door with her legs so the kittens didn't run away. once she got all of them a good distance away from the door, she let us in and we were immediately greeted with two of the kittens running up to our legs; one of them being the one i was adopting.
"that's kitten #6, aka our smallest and youngest kitten." i put down the carrier and picked up the kitten and held her like a baby in my arms.
she was flailing her little legs in the air, meowing. "she's also very talkative." sophie added.
