"aisha! could i speak with you?" my boss came up to my office.

i turned my desk chair to face him. "yeah, for sure. let me finish up this document work." he nodded and went back to his office.

i finished the last bit of the document i was working on before making my way to his office.

"what do you need?" i asked, shutting the door behind me. i hope i'm not getting fired.

my boss noticed my worried look and chuckled, "there's no need to be worried. i just have a work trip i need you to go on."

i smiled nervously, waiting for him to explain. "i'm sending you to mongolia to do a research expedition. our researchers found things potentially related to genghis khan, so they'd like us to send some of you down there."

i nodded my head in excitement. i had been waiting to go on a research project forever! the last time i did a research project in another country was in mexico, which was very fun, but i had to miss seeing my family in morocco for it. that's okay, though, hopefully i can see them this year.

"yeah, i can for sure do that! when is it?" i asked, slightly bouncing on my feet.

"you're leaving this thursday, which gives you three days to organize. i sent you the flight details via email. you'll be going with three of your coworkers, and as this is a joint expedition, archaeologists from germany and canada as well as the researchers in mongolia will be going." he explained.

i nodded and thanked him for the opportunity. i love doing these things! i went up to safa who was doing some things on her computer to let her know.

"safa!" i grabbed her shoulders. she flinched.

"woah, why are you so happy?" she asked, turning around.

"i'm going to mongolia on thursday!" i jumped up and down.

she smiled, "yay, i'm excited for you! do you need me to look after your cats?" she asked.

"that's what i was going to ask you. i don't know how long i'm gone for but mr. hansen sent me the flight details so i'll have them there. i'll tell you the duration tonight."

she nodded. "okay, i definitely can."

the rest of the day was spent being overly excited to my trip. archaeological trips are usually fun; you get to do research on artifacts in a different country and explore the country a little while you're there—especially exploring the food scene. when i went to mexico last year, i had really good empanadas at this restaurant. it's too bad i can't get really good empanadas here. nothing could beat that restaurant.

i got home at my usual time and flopped onto my couch, immediately pulling out my phone to tell lee the exciting news.
