Sadie was the last to get up, as she trudged behind everyone to a little cabin called 'Dark Wind cafeteria' the chefs usually prepared delicious delicacies here but there were a few vending machines around with stuff like chips, chocolate and soft drinks.
"Okay, everybody line up, grab a tray and Fifi will place the food onto your plate," Nicole said.
Every one of the teens grabbed their trays, trudging along behind each other as Fifi slopped on chicken curry onto everyone's plate. Sadie watched as the young woman known as Fifi slopped the curry onto the plate, Sadie smiled but Fifi said nothing, walking off Sadie muttered to herself, "impolite bitch."
As she walked around the cafeteria for somewhere to sit, she noticed Stella and her little bitchy friends all crowding round her. Sadie had to just walk past them, she tried to ignore them but she heard Stella whisper, "Hey, watch this." She placed her foot out, tripping Sadie over and making her fall flat on her face; her food which she was most excited to eat smeared all over the floor.
Stella and her friends just laughed. "Be careful there, Sadie don't want you breaking that precious face of yours."
Sadie pulled herself up from the ground, she noticed Stella had a bandage over her nose. She sighed and went to find a bench to sit down at, alone, by herself, she scooped some remaining bits of curry into her mouth. She spotted that same boy that defended her before coming to sit down next to her, he had wide brown eyes and darkish brown hair, he wore a white shirt with a jacket and denim blue jeans. Sadie smiled at him. "Thanks for um defending me," she muttered.
"Oh, no problem, don't let them bitches get to you they pick on everyone and believe me once you've given them a good ol' punch or called them a certain name they tend to leave you alone after a while," the boy said.
"I've been dealing with bullies my whole life, plus my parents don't care about me so they just dropped me off here to get rid of me so I can handle some bullies whether it be snobby bitchy girls or rich cool kids who think they're better than everyone else," Sadie explained.
"Sheesh, I have mummy and daddy issues too, but hey that's something we got in common. Ain't it? I'm Christian, by the way."
"Sadie, but you knew that already."
"Nice to meet you, Sadie," Christian shook Sadie's hand.
"Nice to meet you, Christian," Sadie shook Christian's hand.
Stella snickered when she saw Christian had joined Sadie, she thought it was bizarre since she figured Sadie was bad news.
"Who are Stella's bitchy friends?" Sadie asked.
"Well, the girl sitting on the right side of Stella with blue eyes is Tracy and the one on the left with green eyes is Tia," Christian replied. "There all as bad as each other, like I said before they just pick on everyone."
"Do they ever pick on you?" Sadie asked.
"Nope, they know not to mess with me because I've beaten them up several times before mostly because they were picking on my autistic little sister Georgia."
"That's horrible, is your sister here at camp now?"
"No, she's at boarding school, I didn't want her around Stella and her minions so mum and dad insisted on letting her stay at her boarding school for the summer."
"That's understandable."
A few hours had passed since dinner, and Sadie lay in her camp bed, it being a bunk bed, she was on the bottom glaring up at the wood of the top bunk, listening to the crickets and cicadas outside. Sadie always found it difficult to get to sleep, so she would listen to her music, it always calmed her but she didn't have her Walkman nor her headphones due to her mum having to drag her out earlier. She just sighed, and tried her best to fall asleep. The next morning, Sadie awoke to the early morning sun streaming through the windows. She figured it was at least around 6:30 am or even 7:00 am, the sound of whistles filled her ears and the loud voices of Nicole and Gary filled the camp site. "Everybody up, breakfast is being made and after breakfast we shall begin with our first activity for the day," Nicole exclaimed.
"Chop, chop," Gary added.
Sadie rubbed her tired eyes, her orange hair like a bird's nest she began brushing it down to her split ends with her brush that she packed in a small backpack lodged under the bed. Once, she had thoroughly brushed her hair, it still wasn't perfect but it'll do, she ran her fingers through it just to get rid of some knots that remained, quickly pulling on a different striped shirt and the same denim shorts and converse shoes she followed the rest of the group down to the cafeteria for breakfast. Amazing smells of toast, bacon and eggs illuminated her senses as she made an 'mmmm' noise. She watched as Fifi placed a stack of toast on a large bench, she also placed down different flavoured jams and a Nutella. Sadie knew this would always be the best part of camp, eating the delicious foods, she quickly grabbed a plate and helped herself to some toast, she smeared it with strawberry jam, there were juice dispensers on the bench too; she grabbed a small plastic cup and filled it up with some orange juice and went to sit down at a table. Again, that Christian boy approached her.
"Good morning," he smiled.
"Morning," she smiled back, her mouth full of toast.
Christian laughed. "I see you love toast."
Sadie nodded. "Oh, yes I love toast. It's pretty obscure but it's my favourite food."
"That's pretty obscure, I've never met anyone whose favourite food is toast," Christian said.
"Yeah, yeah I know I'm weird," Sadie sighed.
Christian just shook his head. "You're not weird," he said. "You're just unique, you're cool."
She nearly choked on her toast from Christian's sudden change in words. "What you on about? I'm not cool, I come from a household where my parents don't love me, and I go to a school where I feel so out of place and unnoticed. Nothing about that makes me cool."
"So what? You're cool to me, you punched Stella in the face on your first day, I think that's pretty badass," Christian blushed.
"You think so?" Sadie asked.
Christian nodded, he just found himself watching Sadie bite into her toast; she was quite the extraordinary girl and he felt pretty bad for her with having parents that didn't love her, feeling out of place at school, it reminded him of his sister. Georgia, isn't loved by his parents either, she also feels out of place and lost in school.
