It was two days later. Tighnari had left the previous day to go to Paris Dhyai, and so Kinoko did what he said and took a rest day. Luckily she was on a 2 week break from school because of unknown reason. Something about the Akademiya working on an important project...she didn't complain though.
Aside from resting, she also made sure Collei was doing alright. Collei recovered quickly thankfully, but she kept on commenting on Kinoko constantly zoning out. Today was the day Tighnari was supposed to come back.
When they saw him enter Gandharva Ville though, he looked injured. He explained to them that he got hit by a lightning strike, but after reassurance he was fine, they immediately forced him to rest while Collei and the other forest rangers covered for him. That evening, the three were having dinner when Collei suggested Kinoko take a vacation. Kinoko was unsure about it, but both Tighnari and Collei said it would be a good idea after everything going on. It took a lot of convincing, but Kinoko agreed and decided to go to Liyue Harbor since it was a well-known route and safe for the most part.
When Kinoko arrived at the place, she was amazed by the beautiful scenery, water, and buildings. She could tell this would be a fun vacation, but her mind was also still worried about everything going on. She was worried on what The Balladeer might do in her absence, but reassured herself that since he didn't make a big effort to capture her, she should be fine.
After sleeping a night in a hotel, she walked downstairs to see a group of people talking.
"Are you going to the banquet being held tonight at the Crux?" One local asked.
"Of course! I heard Captain Beidou is even providing food from Xiangling, and music from Xinyan! She's so generous to be inviting everyone in Liyue!" The other said.
"I haven't even been on the ship! Ooh, something good must've happened for an entire banquet to be held there!"
The two people laughed, and Kinoko walked off, feeling bad about eavesdropping. She felt rather excited about being able to attend a banquet, considering everyone was invited.
That evening, she showed up at the ship, pleading that she wasn't underdressed. As she looked around, she could see a young woman cooking delicious-looking food, as well as a guitarist rocking the music. People were dancing and chattering in the center. When she looked to the top deck, she saw a strong-looking woman watching the festivities with a smile on her face. The woman had long, brown hair and a red eyepatch. Kinoko assumed that was Captain Beidou.
Kinoko wondered to herself where she should go, considering she knew nobody at the banquet, when she realized Beidou had waved her down. Her eyes widened and she looked around to make sure Beidou was waving at her, but the captain only laughed and nodded, signaling for her to walk over. Fighting back her own nerves, Kinoko walked over to Beidou.
"Hey, kid. You don't look like you're from around here." Beidou had a friendly and confident smile on her face as she spoke, leaning against the railing next to them.
Kinoko just laughed awkwardly. "Yeah, I'm from Sumeru. I'm on...a vacation of sorts." She leaned against the railing to try and act casual and as if she wasn't nervous.
"Wow, Sumeru. What do you do there?" The captain seemed amused by the awkwardness of the conversation, but held her head high. She must be used to being at the top, but not in a bad way.
"I'm a student at the Akademiya. I'm learning to be an architect." Kinoko explained softly. Talking about interests was easier for her on the most part. "Oh, sorry, my name's Kinoko."
