The next day, Kinoko awoke at noon. Not necessarily good, but considering she was suffering from a severe hangover, she let herself off the hook. Her hair was a mess. She was a mess. She stood up from her position on my couch and picked up her hair brush from the small table next to it. She winced at the pulls of the many tangles in her hair.

She looked outside the window. It had just started pouring outside. She could see why-it was September, fall is approaching, and she lives in the rainforest. She sighed. During these times of the year, she always felt a little more sad than usual.

When Kinoko finished brushing her hair (which was very painful), she stared at her hand for a moment. Her veins slowly started to glow pink, like they usually do when she uses her power. Usually her power triggers when she feels exhilarated , or any intense emotion. However, ever since she stopped using it, there were certain periods of time where it would trigger itself. During this time, she usually had to exit to a private space if she was in public, but this time, she let the orb of pink light and electricity form in her hand.

She played with it idly, wondering how she could even handle something like this. This thing–this orb, has made her more powerful than she can imagine, and that's dangerous.

She could sense from the corner of her eye some movement outside her window. She removed herself from the light her eyes were practically glued to and glanced outside to see Wanderer walking towards my door. Kinoko instantly leaped from the couch. She looked like a total wreck, and didn't have time to fix up or anything. The only thing she did was spritz some perfume, then the knock came.

Kinoko sighed before opening the door. Wanderer stood in front of her, water dripping down his large kasa hat. He certainly looked grumpy, an annoyed look on his face. "Are you going to stand there, or are you going to let me inside?" He asked.

She cleared her throat, snapping out of her thrown-off state, and stepped out of the way to let him inside. He rested his hat on my small table where she eats her breakfast, and started to squeeze the water out of his hair. "Why are you here?" She asks quietly.

"If you didn't already know, I'm not a big fan of the rain." He muttered sarcastically.

"Heh." She chuckled softly, her fingers gently tracing over a few of the scars on her arm. "So you decided to take shelter here?" She felt giddy at the thought of him staying for a bit until the rain stopped.

"Yeah. It was the only good solution." Wanderer's gaze moved from his hat to her. Why did his eyes seem more colorful lately? Kinoko thought. "Weren't you the one that said we were best friends? I thought best friends just came over without question."

Kinoko walked back to the couch where she could watch the rain some more. This was to hide the fact that she was smiling. "Stay as long as you like then. You're always welcome." She sank back into the couch, watching how peaceful the rain was outside. She could hear him stand in place for a moment before sitting in the seat by the table to keep close to his hat.

"Can I be honest with you?" She asks, not bothering to look at him. She was afraid she would do something stupid if she did. Even though Kinoko hasn't really thought much about it since she's been healing, the memory crossed her mind briefly of when he kissed her.

"I'm no good at sentimental stuff." Wanderer stated. The air felt tense, yet comfortable and free. Kinoko started to fidget with her fingers, pulling at her fingerless gloves. "But go ahead." She felt a breath of relief when he agreed.

She cleared her throat. The hardest part was starting to talk about things that mentally challenged me. "I'm scared that I'm going to be found again. I trust that Childe told the Doctor that I was dead, but I don't trust that the Doctor will believe that. I am immortal after all, that's how the Doctor made me; unless his experiment failed..." Kinoko didn't think Childe knew that she was immortal, just that she was going to be useful for the Tsaritsa and the Doctor wanted her back. She could only imagine how the harbingers knew that Childe knew her the best, and even if it may have been hard for him, they wanted him specifically to find Kinoko. She doesn't doubt that he was hurt when she was declared gone by Signora. Why else would he ask her to be part of his family if he didn't care about her? Besides, Childe was a weapon of his own. He had no motive to deceive her.
