One week later...
Kinoko spent the last week doing a few small commissions from Katheryne through the weekend, and after school the next week. She felt like she had gotten the hang of it, and had a fun hobby for her to do since she didn't need to help out in the forest anymore.
The next Saturday, she showed up to the Adventurer's Guild, waving at Katheryne. There was someone next to her, but she didn't pay any close attention.
"Hey Katheryne! Any commissions today?" Kinoko asked with a friendly tone. She'd been trying to talk to people more, so she made sure to always smile.
Katheryne smiled back, but it faltered. "Unfortunately, so many adventurer's have chosen to do commissions today, there's only one left. This one you probably need to do with someone else."
Kinoko tilted her head. "Huh? Why would I need to do it with someone else?"
"Well, this commission requires an experienced fighter. We've actually already chosen someone to do it." She gestured to the side.
Kinoko looked to her left, and immediately recognized the man next to her. Blue hair, big hat, though he looked a lot different from before, and had an anemo vision hanging on a ribbon. She took a step back. "WHAT!? T-the Balla-"
His eyes widened as if she were crazy and he pressed a hand over her mouth to stop her from talking. "I'm just a simple wanderer now. Call me that, or just call me whatever."
He pulled his hand away, and Kinoko took a few more steps back.
"Katheryne, this-this man, he-" She couldn't even form words. Had The Balladeer come to get her? She thought that the craziness was over, or she was hallucinating he even existed.
"Come." He spoke flatly, grabbing her wrist and leading her up one of the huge Akademiya branches to a more secluded spot. "How do you remember me?" He spoke coldly, but not that he had any evil intentions.
She yanked her hand away immediately, her face already pale. "I think I should ask you the questions. Why the hell are you here? Why does no one know who you are?" Her thoughts were racing in her head.
He sighed, and crossed his arms. "I erased myself from Irminsul."
Kinoko immediately froze. Irminsul? The thing Haypasia and Tighnari talked about?
"You erased yourself from Irminsul?"
"Yes, I did. That big tree that contains all the memories and information on Teyvat? So no one remembers me?" He looked at her as if she were stupid, and she hated that.
She took in a sharp breath to process. "How do I remember you?"
"That's what I asked!" He raised his voice a bit in annoyance.
Kinoko opened her mouth, then closed it again. "Ok, well my priorities are doing this commission. I assume you have fighting experience."
"Obviously." He said, walking back to Katheryne. She followed.
"So you aren't trying to kidnap me anymore? You won't kill me?" She asked in a hushed tone.
"Obviously not. I'm not in the Fatui, and I have no desire to become a god." Wanderer rolled his eyes as they reached Katheryne once again.
"What's the commission?" Kinoko asked.
Katheryne grinned. "Glad you asked. The commission is in the Temir Mountains. You two are to clear out some hilichurl and other dangerous camps there."
"Wait-that's basically an overnight commission! I am not going on an overnight commission with him." Kinoko turned around and immediately started to walk off.
