Y/N woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring at 6 a.m. She groaned and reached over to silence it, the early morning light filtering through her bedroom window. Today was her second week at Woodsboro High, and she was still adjusting to the new routine.

She swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood up, stretching. Yawning, she shuffled to her closet and picked out her outfit for the day: a red and black checkered pleated skirt, a white crop top, and her favorite pair of black Dr. Martens. After quickly getting dressed, she brushed her hair and applied a bit of makeup.

Downstairs, the house was still quiet. Her mom, Ava, was usually up by now, but Y/N guessed she was taking advantage of the calm morning. Y/N grabbed a granola bar and an apple from the kitchen and stuffed them into her backpack.

The walk to the bus stop was peaceful. The morning air was crisp, and the sun was just beginning to rise. As she approached the bus stop, she saw a small group of students gathered, whispering among themselves.

"Hey, Y/N," one of them, a girl named Sara, greeted her. "Did you hear what happened?"

Y/N shook her head, puzzled. "No, what’s going on?"

Sara's eyes were wide with fear. "Casey Becker and her boyfriend, Steve, were murdered last night."

Y/N's heart skipped a beat. "Murdered? Are you serious?"

"Yeah," another student, Mark, chimed in. "They found Casey hanging from a tree in her front yard, and Steve... well, it was bad."

Y/N felt a chill run down her spine. Woodsboro had seemed like such a quiet, safe town. The news was shocking and terrifying.

The bus ride to school was unusually quiet. The usual chatter and laughter were replaced with hushed whispers and worried glances. When they arrived at Woodsboro High, it was clear that the entire school was in a state of shock. Students huddled in groups, talking about the murders, while teachers tried to maintain order.

In first period, Y/N's history teacher, Mr. Anderson, addressed the class. "I know you've all heard the terrible news about Casey and Steve. The school counselors are available if anyone needs to talk. Please try to stay calm and look out for each other."

Y/N could hardly concentrate. Her mind kept drifting back to the horrifying news. She had never met Casey or Steve, but the fact that such a brutal crime had happened so close to home was unsettling.

At lunch, Y/N sat with Sara and a few other friends. The conversation inevitably turned back to the murders.

"Do you think it was someone from the school?" Sara asked, her voice trembling.

"I don't know," Mark replied. "But everyone’s saying it must be someone who knew them."

Y/N shivered. The idea that a killer could be walking among them was almost too much to bear.

The rest of the school day passed in a blur. Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had settled over her. When she finally got home, she found Ava and Josh in the living room, watching the news.

"Hey, sweetie," Ava said softly. "How was school?"

Y/N shrugged. "It was... intense. Everyone’s talking about what happened to Casey and Steve."

Ava nodded, her face lined with worry. "I know. It’s horrible. We just have to be careful and stay together."

Y/N sat down next to her mom, seeking comfort in the presence of her family. As the news played on, she couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for Woodsboro—and if they would ever truly feel safe again.
