19013/ Iselin PoV

I handed the paper over, and followed Neon into a second, connected room.
"This is the practical. We're going to put you through an AR sim, OK? Good luck." She placed two bracelets in my hands and walked out. I snapped the bracelets onto my wrists and waited for the sim to start. After a few seconds, blue text appeared in the air

This is an AR simulation.
To pass, you must get to the other
end of the room and out of the door. You may
use any object in the room to succeed

I looked around, nothing had happened yet, but I knew something would soon. The room was the length of the shooting range in the gym, and was filled with projectors and sensors for the AR sim; at this end, there was a pile of weapons, at the far end, a single doorway. I sifted through the pile, eventually grabbing a katana and a knife, ignoring the guns, because bullets would ricochet.

Almost immediately, a hologram appeared behind me, an assassin, full body armour. I leapt up and kicked out, my heel colliding with nothing but fresh air where its forehead would be, as the projection fell to the floor. I stabbed at its neck; it disappeared and I turned, grabbing any random object from the pile and throwing it down the room. It triggered several traps and 10 more assassins generated in several areas; after taking them down, avoiding the river of acid , several tripwires and venomous snakes, I made it to the next section: a climbing wall, then balance beams, then monkey bars to the doorway. I quickly scaled the wall, and only as I was preparing to drop onto the beam did I realise it was spinning
"Dritt!" [shit!] I cursed under my breath, and carefully stepped out onto it once I was sure it was stable; I carefully picked my way over to the start of the monkey bars. I did a couple of pullups on the first bar, then swang my way to the door, landing on the tiny platform.

Pressing the button to release the door, I adjusted my outfit and stepped out of the room. The others were waiting on the other side, and Neon embraced me tight before leading us back to the dorm. It had changed since we left, there were cushions and blankets on the floor in a circle, and the table of to the side had acquired more food and drinks. We sat in a ring on the floor, curled up under fluffy throws with plates of pizza and fried chicken and played games like monopoly and UNO.

As the night progressed, the games became deeper and more like what you'd expect to find at a teenager girl's sleepover party rather than the equivalent of a military barracks. By the time Neon brought up never have I ever, it was the early hours of the morning, and most of us were riding sugar and caffeine highs. The others had lined up shots of energy drinks, and we were taking it in turn to state something we had never done.
"Never have I ever... hid my identity from a large group of people- NOT including the internet!"
"That was oddly specific," E-va said, putting down the glass she'd picked up. They all stared at me as I downed a cup of the sugary liquid.
"Guess I've got some explaining to do." I muttered
"You guys are some of the only people who know my real identity. Neon found out earlier, and I thought it was best to have an all or nothing situation..." I chuckled and switched my ID above my head to show the original one.

Their mouths fell open.
"So, yeah. This is me, I guess. The real me. Nice to meet you." Clare was the first one to react
"Is Iselin actually your name?"
"Weird question to start with, but yeah. As I said to Neon earlier, everything I told you was true, I just omitted the parts that could risk my identity as #19013. She said she trusts you to keep this secret, but I don't want special treatment just because I have an ID that lots of people know" They nodded and were about to go back to the game when Hayley, still slightly awestruck by the look on her face, asked
"Can you sing for us?" I stopped
"What, like karaoke, or accapella?"
"I don't mind, just your voice sounds so nice and I wondered-"
"No, no, its fine, I can sing." I hummed along to the intro of darkside, then started singing. When I finished, the others smiled and we turned back to our array of games.

I was woken in the morning by a banging on the door. The others still asleep, I rolled out of bed and padded over to the door. Susanne was on the other side (hell knows how she had found out that I was here) dressed in a full combat suit and body armour.
"I'm about to head out, we've got a couple of clans pinging up in Indiana that I'm going to go collect. I wanted to say goodbye before I left, Chris said you were here." I shrugged.
"I know the drill, I'll come say hi when you get back. Until then, good luck." I pulled her in for a quick hug then waved her goodbye down the hall.

When the door hissed shut, I headed back to my bunk and sat on the edge, checking my HUD for the first time for the day. To my surprise, the clock showed 10.30 and the forums were full of chatter that Alan had finally approved a mission to rescue the ancient walkers held by Red Nexus. By then the others were starting to wake, and we went for our first team training session; I had to keep double checking that my ID was showing correctly as #28635 for the others, because it was weird walking around without a mask in public.

After that, and a brief call with Alan explaining the forces he was putting out for the mission, I said goodbye to the girls and met with Susanne and the new rescues.

Serafina PoV

This was the last clan to collect before the ones held captive. I turned to Susanne, checking we had them all, and then led them through to Escape. We were only in there for a couple of minutes before the young teen came bounding in. Nobody would tell me her name, but she was clearly influential within the base, and was always willing to help. She made sure to go round and say hello to everyone, asking which clan they were and answering any questions they had about how long they would be here. She smiled goodbye to me once she was done, whispered something in Susanne's ear and then left.
