Chapter 15: Joining Survey corps

3rd POV

The sky was already showing afternoon, the sun was already on the horizon and would soon set, leaving the world in darkness. The new recruits waited for the enlistment to begin.

"Jean! Are you sure about this?" Armin said

"Yeah" replied Jean

"Why the change of heart? I mean, aren't you scared?" Sasha asked

"Hah? Of course I'm scared of joining the survey corps." Jean replied

"Th-Then why would you?" said Connie

"it's not at all because I'm not scared of the titans. I'm not thinking, "those with skills should join the survey corps," either. "I'm different from that reckless idiot," said Jean

"Eren, huh......he's already in the survey corps, isn't he?" Connie said

"I acknowledge your progress against your fears, Jean." (Y/N) came over and joined in the conversation

"(Y/N).... I admit im still in fear of titans... I should have enlisted to the military police, but after Marco's dead.... I think my choice is not the best," said Jean

"By the way, (Y/N). why do you want to join the survey corps?" Armin asked

"I have my own reason...... I just want to kill that giant piece of shit......" replied (Y/N)

"Recruits, file in! Line up before the stage! Directions to line up in front of the stage, the enlist process will begin immediately." said the recruiting soldier

"You know, I'm not putting my life on the line because I was persuaded to. At the very least, this isn't a decision someone else can make for me." said Jean and left

"We should go too" said (Y/N)

The sun began to set and night fell, the survey corps commander came up to the stage and began his speech

"i'm Erwin Smith, the commander of the survey corps, today is the day you'll decide where you'll enlist. To be blunt, I'm here to recruit soldiers for the survey corps. I'm sure the latest titan attack has made you fear the titans and recognize the limits of your strength. However, through that battle, mankind has made unprecedented progress in its struggle. "The key was Eren Yeager," said Erwin

"His willingness to risk his life for mankind signifies his unquestionable allegiance to us," said Erwin

"Eren... he's a step ahead before us" said (Y/N)

"Furthermore, not only did he allow us to stop the titans, he also provided us a way to unveil the mystery of the titans!" said Erwin

"Eh..." Armin and Mikasa were surprised by Erwin's statement

Everyone was surprised by the opportunity they suddenly got, to find out the secret of Titan which had been hidden and became a mystery.

"mysteries of the titans?" said (Y/N) in his mind

"in the basement of his home in shiganshina district lies the secret of the titans unknown even to him. If we could just reach that basement, we might find a clue that will help us in overthrowing the titans century long rule! " said Erwin

"His....Basement?" Reiner said

"for a commander, what is he trying to do? Even for us such as new recruits to gain that kind of information as high as top class information, what is he trying to reach" said (Y/N) in mind

"We aim to reach that basement in shiganshina district. But to that end, the recapture of Wall Maria is crucial. In other words, our goal hasn't changed, but now that Trost District's gate is unusable, we'll have to go around from Karanese District in the East. Everyone fell silent hearing Erwin's speech

One by one, the new recruits left the scene, not wanting to hasten their deaths by going to the titans' lair. Jean and the others felt intense pressure. They tried to stick to their choice even though fear enveloped them, except for Mikasa, Armin, and (Y/N). Even though Jean's legs were shaking, he didn't waver and stuck to his choice. In the end, there were very few young recruits who dared to join the survey corps.

"Could you....die if given the order to?" said Erwin

"We don't want to die!" Jean answered

"I see, I like your expressions" said Erwin and smiled with the courage of the recruits risking their lives to join the survey corps

"now then, I accept all of you that remain as new survey corps soldiers! This will be true salute! Shinzou sasageyo!!" said Erwin with burning enthusiasm

"Yes, sir," they said simultaneously

"Everyone..." Armin said, moved

"This is the worst. Damn the survey corps..." said Jean

"I'm so scared... I want to go home," said Sasha while crying

"I don't care anymore..." said Connie

"Sob..." Krista almost cried because she was so scared

"if you're gonna cry about it, you should've left." Ymir said

"with this, my revenge will begin now.... wait for me....., dad.... I'll make them pay!" said (Y/N)

"You've done everything well to suppress your fear. Every one of you is a brave soldier. You have my deepest respect

The night passed, in the end only a handful of people dared to join the survey corps.
