For hours, Jungkook has been absorbed in a virtual world of adventures and fights, stuck to his gaming console. As I furiously wash the dishes in the kitchen, the sound of vibrant explosions and fast-firing pistol bullets echoes throughout our tiny flat. My glasses become fogged with steam from the hot water, but I can still see the rising stack of dirty dishes that Jungkook said me he would clean.
"Jungkook!" I raise my voice, breaking past the background noise. "Can you help with these dishes?" He answers without taking his eyes from the screen, "Yeah, in a minute" I feel a sense of urgency in his words, the kind that comes only during an important moment in his plan of attack.
One minute becomes ten, then twenty. As I wash the dishes by myself, each one serving as a reminder of his carelessness, my patience fades. Dry-wiping my hands, I stomp into the living room and position myself between him and the television. He tries to look around me and shouts, "Y/N, move!" but I don't back down. I firmly declare, "We need to talk" When the game finally stops, he asks, "About what?" and looks up at me. His confused and irritated expression makes me even more angry.
"You promised to help with the dishes" I start, finding it difficult to maintain my cool. "But, Jungkook, you've been playing that game for hours. I feel like I'm handling everything on my own here, while you seem to be on a different planet" He sighs, obviously annoyed. "Y/N, I promised to do it. All I had to do was complete this level"
"When will that happen? Past midnight? Tomorrow? Next week?" I scream and fold my arms. "You constantly promise to help, but it never happens. It is like a ghost is living with me"
"You're overreacting" he adds, shaking his head. "I'll take care of the dishes later, it's just a game. Why do you always take everything so seriously?"
I can feel my rage getting stronger as his comments hurt. "Jungkook, it's not only about the food. It's the sense of being alone myself in this relationship. I'm here waiting for you to see me, but you're always focused on your game" He glances at me in confusion. "What are you trying to say? Yes, I am here, right? You should not think that I don't care about you since I like to play games"
"Being physically here and being present are two different things" I respond. "You're so absorbed in your games that you don't even realize how much you're ignoring everything else, including me"
"It's unfair" he protests. "I also need to rest. I relax in this way"
"At the cost of our relationship?" I seek out, trembling a little. "It feels like you'd rather be with your game than with me" He lets out a frustrated throw of his hands. "Y/N, you're acting crazy. I take care of many things for us. It doesn't imply I don't care about you, just that I need some alone time"
"I'm not being crazy!" I yell, my rage exploding. "I'm tired of always coming second to a Game!" Red in the face from frustration, Jungkook gets to his feet. "Do you believe I don't have any needs? I handle stress in this way! Why do you find that so difficult to understand?"
"Understand? When you never try to understand me, how can I?" I respond with a yell, feeling the tension between us spark like electricity. "I'm trying to talk to you now, aren't I?" His hands gripped at his sides, he lets forth a growl.
"I don't want to talk anymore" I claim turning on my heel and storming into the bedroom. "I'm done for tonight" His voice still high, he follows me to the door. "Y/N, we have to solve this! We have to stop going in circles"
I yell, "Not tonight, Jungkook" and slam the bedroom door. He's saying something angry over there. Before I could say anything, he went into the bedroom.
