You get to know him trough your window- as your neighbor
@koo.cozy on instagram ♡I was drinking a warm cup of coffee and lazily glancing out my window when I first noticed him. As the sun started to set, the sky was painted in shades of pink and orange. My eyes strayed across the houses in the neighborhood until they came to rest on him. He was a handsome young man with dark hair that was somewhat messy, and he was looking out the window next to mine. When our gazes locked, it felt like time had stopped. Then he raised his hand in a friendly wave and grinned. A secret bond was formed between us as soon as I gave the gesture back, causing a flush to appear on my cheeks.
Weeks grew into months as days continued to pass. Our strange way of speaking developed. We began to write notes on scraps of paper and stick them on our windows. His handwriting was tidy and perfected, but mine was a little sloppy and hurried, a reflection of my constantly busy schedule. Simple welcomes and observations about the weather were blended with more intimate stories and inside jokes that were only known to us in the letters.
"Happy morning!" He would write, "Have a great day at work"
"Thanks! Remember to water your plants" I would respond. It was odd how much I felt like I knew him even though we had never spoken words. His comments were often accompanied by little drawings of things like a steaming cup of coffee, a cat curled up in a ball, or the sun wearing sunglasses. I started excitedly watching my window every morning and evening, awaiting his messages.
I had a cup of tea, a blanket, and a book huddled up on my couch one chilly autumn evening. I caught a glimpse of him standing there and gesturing with a letter through the window. It said, "How was your day?" I grinned and scrawled out my answer. "Painful. but now it's better. What about yours?"He responded almost immediately. "Busy. Would you like to speak with me face-to-face?"
A beat skipped in my heart. Even though we had been communicating in this way for six months, we had never really met. The thought of being able to see him up close and hear his voice excited me nervously. I gave him a thumbs up, nodded, and inhaled deeply.
We decided to meet in 10 minutes in front of our homes. I hurried to my bedroom and looked in the mirror. I hurriedly adjusted my clothes, brushed through my messy hair from sitting around all day, and took a deep breath to slow my heartbeat.I breathed in the cool evening air as I stepped outside. I felt the crunch of leaves under my feet as I stepped down my porch's steps. He was waiting there, appearing as anxious and excited as I was, as I got closer to the sidewalk. His eyes sparkled in the streetlights, and he was dressed simply in trousers and a black hoodie.
"Hi" I murmured, hardly raising my voice above a whisper. "Hi" he answered in a pleasant, friendly voice. "I'm Jungkook"
"I'm Y/N" I grinned and said. "It's nice to finally meet you" A lovely chill ran down my spine as he laughed softly. "Yes, it's about time, right? Even though we haven't really spoken, I feel like I know you so well" I felt the same way and nodded. "It's kind of surreal" For a moment, we simply observed one another. Then he pointed to a bench close by. "Want to sit and talk for a bit?" I nodded and followed him. After we sat down, the conversation started to flow. We discussed our careers, interests, and go-to films and songs. He shared with me his passion for singing and the songs he was currently writing. I talked about how much I loved to write and how I was having trouble with inspiration. He listened carefully and gave encouraging words and helpful advice.
While we joked and chatted, it seemed like the time passed quickly. I felt a cozy warmth take the place of the nervousness I had felt earlier. In a sense, it felt like we had known each other for a long time. Our face-to-face meeting had strengthened the connection we had formed through our notes, which had helped us to get along better.
We finally got up, unwillingly, thinking it was time to go back inside as the night grew cooler. After walking me to my door, Jungkook and I stood there for a while, unable to bring ourselves to let the evening end. I grinned up at him and said, "Thanks for tonight. It was really nice"
"Yes, it was" he said. "We should do this again sometime""I'd like that" I answered, a little excited. He grinned, the corners of his eyes crinkling in that cute way I was used to from our chats via the window. "Goodnight, Y/N" I wished him "goodnight, Jungkook" as I saw him turn and head back to his home. With a dreamy smile on my face, I leaned against the door and closed it behind me. We had finally met, though it had taken six months. And I sensed that this was only the start of something really special.
