Sydney woke up the next morning, and hid under her covers. She didn't want to come out of her room and was dreading to see anybody. "Syd! You gotta leave if you wanna see Paige before she leaves for UConn!" Sydney's mom knocked on her door. Sydney let her mom stand at the door for a minute before getting up and opening the door for her.
"Sweety what's wrong?" She asked, pulling her daughter in for a hug. Sydney had mascara dripping from her eyes and looked like hell. She had tears in her eyes making her mom worried. Sydney was going through so much emotions and didn't know what to do with them. "Mom I would usually tell Paige this but I can't, and I need to get it off my chest and I need advice" Sydney said, patting the bed so her mom would join her. "Okay what's up?" She asked Sydney. Sydney and her mom had a great relationship, Sydney felt like she could always tell her mom anything. She was grateful for that. "AJ COME HERE!" Sydney yelled. Sydney knew that AJ would have good advice as well. Her mom and AJ together are the best listeners.
AJ joined them on the bed and Sydney hugged her pillow and took a deep breath before she started "okay so" she began but got interrupted by AJ "wait, did you and Paige get u to a fight? Cause you always bring me and mom in to talk, when you do" "no and listen!" Sydney said annoyed. "okay so last night, after the team and our friend group left, Paige asked me to go to the dock. When we got there we layed down and just watched the stars. Then she fully turner her body to face me and, she, she kissed me." Sydney watched as her mom and sisters faces gasped and smiled "and the thing is I liked it, I could feel the sparks fly, cringy but there were fireworks going off when our lips touched."
"Hunny that's great! I have had a feeling that Paige liked you more than just a best friend. I mean AJ can agree with me on this one" Sydney's mom said rubbing her shoulder "ya the way she looks at you, she's in love" AJ laughs "no she's not! And besides I'm straight!" Sydney defends "um if you felt 'sparks' when you kissed, then, babe you ain't straight" AJ said. Sydney sat there and thought, she looked at her mom, who gave her a soft smile.
"I'm proud of you either way, if you like girls or not. We all love you, and you can tell us anything." Her mom said giving her a hug. "I'm scared" Sydney said pulling away and looking at AJ. "I ran away from her and I think I ruined our friendship. I can't lose her, she's my best friend. We've been through everything together and I don't want this to be the end. We were supposed to be each other maid of honors at our weddings, and neighbors and have our kids be best friends and grow up together." Sydney said tearing up.
"I promise you Syd, you and Paige's friendship is to strong to be torn apart by this. She loves you, now I suggest you go see her before she's off to Connecticut" AJ says. Sydney popped out of bed and threw on shorts and a sweatshirt. It's was a cold summer morning, but still hot enough for shorts. Sydney ran to her car and drove to the airport. Paiges flight was supposed to take off in 30 minutes. Cutting it close, because the gps said it would take 23 minutes to get there.
Sydney sped through the traffic and finally got to the airport. She ran to Paige's gate just to see the tall blonde scanning her ticket and walking of to the plane entrance. Shit, Sydney thought. Sydney stood there, on the verge of hopping on that plane with Paige. She forced herself to walk away, she texted her best friend to have a safe flight but never got a reply.
The week leading up to Sydney leaving for college was rough. She slept till noon almost everyday and was grumpy. She hung out with her family, and they all tried to cheer her up but she wasn't having it. She had these feelings about Paige and didn't know what to do with them. She lived Paige, as a best friend, and one thing was certain, Sydney Williams was a straight girl. But something about that kiss, the way Paige ran her hand through her hair, the way her lips were sweet and soft, the way Paige was so gentle.
The Williams arrived at the airport, hoping out, handing Sydney her suitcase and carry on. Sydney's family had shipped all of her stuff already for her, and was delivered to her dorm. Her family begged to come along and help her unpack her dorm, but Sydney wouldn't let them. She didn't want them to spend all that money.
"Ugh I'm gonna miss you, send vlogs and pictures and FaceTime everyday! You're gonna have so much fun, I love you!" AJ said hugging her sister tight. "Love you to AJ". Sydney said goodbye to all her family then was off to security. She finally got to her gate, and it was already boarding. She walked through the aisle finding her seat and sitting down.
The flight from Minnesota to Tennesseewas only 2 hours so she propped up her laptop and watched a few episodes of Modern Family.
She finally touched down in Tennessee and hopped in her Uber. When she arrived at her dorm she saw all of her stuff sitting on the ground outside the door. She unlocked the dorm meeting another face "um are you my roommate?" A short brunette asked "ya, I'm Sydney" she said smiling "um ya I'm Millie and can you move all that stuff in the doorway? I have a boy coming over soon and I don't need the dorm looking like a shit whole." Millie said in a bitchy tone. Great so this is the kinda roommate Sydney is going to have. Sydney gave her a fake smile then moved her stuff into the room.
Hopefully things turn around for her, Tennessee is going to be her home for the next couple years after all...
