"Just so you know, I had a nose job", deadpanned Anna when she sat down next to Paula.
"Pardon? When? I never saw your nose bandaged and it looks the same".
"But people on tik tok say I did", she said, rolling her eyes.
"Why?", laughed Paula.
"The Calvin Klein photos. They contoured my nose and used lighting and angles that apparently make my nose look different so surely I had a nose job. And I have a boob job whenever I use a push up bra too".
"I love those temporary boob jobs", said Paula, putting her hands under her boobs and lifting them a bit. "Shame they disappear when I take the bra off".
"I think your boobs always look great".
"Thanks, Anna. And your nose does too so no need for a nose job".
The two friends laughed and started to work. But the consequences of Anna's campaign for Calvin Klein going viral were felt soon.
The brand loved the way the photos turned out...but they mostly loved all the engagement on social media. And how that increased the sales. If something helped them make more money, they were happy.
"Who was it on the phone?", asked Anna's mum Sofía when her daughter came back to the living room. She was visiting her parents after work.
"Vogue".
"Who's that?", asked her dad.
"Keep up, Josep. That's a fashion magazine".
"Do they want you to take more photos wearing only underwear?"
It was fair to say Anna's dad was not a fan of seeing his daughter wearing so little and those photos being posted where anyone could see them.
"No. They want me to do a video talking about my beauty secrets. Not sure I have any, though".
"Tell them the truth", said her dad. "You got your beauty from your mother. No secrets".
Anna smiled seeing her mum beaming after hearing those words and she hugged her dad. "I got some of it from you too, dad".
"I can't take the credit for that, sweetie. I guess you are so tall thanks to my genes. But you're as beautiful as your mum", he added before pretending to whisper so only Anna could hear him. "Actually, you're even prettier but don't tell her".
Anna chuckled and her mum pretended to be offended but agreed with her husband completely.
Even though she really felt like her beauty routine was too simple and boring, Anna accepted the offer. She knew how things worked. She was the woman people cared about that month and they would get bored of her before moving to the next one soon...so she wanted to have fun and take advantage of those opportunities she was being offered before people forgot about her.
And she kept being surprised by everything that was happening to her.
"There's a parcel for you, Anna".
"Oh...thank you".
"What is that?", asked Paula, moving closer to see.
"I don't know. I wasn't expecting anything".
When Anna opened the box, her eyes opened wide. What was this?
"Oh my God...is this for me?", she read the note.
"Did you order that?"
"No. But I'm going to do that video for Vogue. The one showing my skincare routine and they sent me all these super expensive products to show on the video".
"Isn't the purpose of the video to show your real routine?"
"I guess not. But I'm not saying no to all of this", laughed Anna and Paula joined her while she kept checking all the products that were in the box.
Hugo noticed the two friends laughing and approached them to see what was going on.
"What are you two doing?"
"We've been working too", said Paula quickly.
"I'm not here to tell you off. Just wondering what's so funny".
"Oh, Anna is going to do a video for Vogue and they sent her tons of expensive shit".
"Are you a model now?", laughed Hugo. "You're pretty enough for it".
"I'm not", said Anna, trying not to blush at the compliment. "But the check I got from Calvin Klein is paying my rent for the next 15 months. I did the calculations".
"Not bad", said Hugo.
"And I thought this Vogue video was a free gig but...there are thousands of euros worth of products in this box".
"There is perfume too", squealed Paula when she saw the perfume boxes.
"You're doing really well, Anna", said Hugo. "And you deserve all of this".
"Thank you".
Paula was smirking looking at the scene in front of her.
"This one looks at you the same way Ferran does".
"Shut up".
"I'm just saying...".
But Anna didn't need Paula to tell her that. She had already noticed and...she wasn't mad at the attention she got from Hugo.
