Anna woke up in a room she didn't recognise at first, wearing a t-shirt she also didn't recognise. But then she remembered she had stayed at Ferran's and now had to face him after confessing she was dating Hugo. It was so stupid to feel like that but...she knew it had changed things with Ferran.
"Morning!"
"Hey", said Ferran, looking up from his phone to see Anna approaching the kitchen island. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes. Were you waiting for me to have breakfast or...".
"I never have breakfast".
"What?", she was shocked by that confession. "I wouldn't be able to leave the house with an empty stomach".
"I don't know, I like doing a quick workout before I eat".
"Sounds horrible but whatever works for you", she joked but didn't see Ferran laughing like he usually would.
"I also thought you were going to have breakfast with your boyfriend so why wait for you, right?"
"Oh crap! I forgot!"
Anna ran upstairs to check her phone and saw a text from Hugo saying he'd see her in an hour...which had been sent 35 minutes ago.
"Crap crap crap!"
She took off Ferran's t-shirt and put on her clothes from the previous day. She hadn't seen Hugo, so he wouldn't know she hadn't changed into new clothes.
"Here", she said to Ferran, offering his t-shirt back. "This is yours. Thank you for letting me stay here".
"No problem. Have fun at your date".
"Yeah...see you soon?"
"Sure. There is a match tomorrow".
"Right...I'll see you there. I gotta go".
They'd meet at a match. Not to have coffee or hang out with other friends...but at the match. Maybe that was a better way to do things that whatever it was they had going on until now.
Ferran had not slept well. How could he? Anna was in the room next to his, which already made him so nervous. And she was dating someone...Hugo. Her boss. He picked up his phone and checked his Instagram account. Tall, handsome, good job, probably smart too, ...yeah, that was who Anna should be dating.
"I'm so pathetic", he muttered. "So pathetic".
At least there was training that morning and he could use it to try and forget about Anna and Hugo. Unless his friends didn't allow him to.
"Did Anna stay the night then?", asked Pedri, raising his eyebrows when he saw Ferran enter the dressing room.
"I don't want to talk about it".
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"She's dating someone", whispered Ferran, sounding defeated.
"Well, so are you...".
"Yeah. Maybe I should just concentrate on my actual girlfriend instead of daydreaming about someone I'll never have".
"Sorry, bro".
"It's ok. Maybe this is for the best".
Anna only was 5 minutes late to her date with Hugo, who was waiting to order their food.
"Hey", he greeted her with a big smile, getting up from his chair to kiss her. "How can you look so beautiful this early in the morning? Not fair for all the other women in the world".
"Thanks", she chuckled. "Should we order? I'm starving".
The food was as delicious as always. And Hugo's smile just got bigger the longer they stayed there.
"It's so funny", he said.
"What is?"
"All the men who walk past stare at you and then look at me and probably think I'm the luckiest bastard in the world".
Anna felt that was a bit of an awkward comment but... "I'm sure the women who see me with you are jealous too".
"Maybe a few but it's not the same. Men are more jealous, even if we sometimes show it less".
"Interesting".
"Whenever we make this more public, I'll be the most hated man in the country", said Hugo and then laughed at his own joke.
Anna just smiled and went along with the joke because she didn't know what else to do or say. And she still felt very conflicted about having spent time with Ferran last night, about falling asleep next to him, ...
"Do you want to come over and just spend the day with me?", asked Anna.
"Am I finally allowed to see your apartment?"
"You're also allowed to stay there".
"I'd like that".
That was what Anna needed. To spend time with her boyfriend. To be intimate with her boyfriend. Not with someone else. And, most importantly, not with someone else's boyfriend.
