When Anna got back home, she sat down on the sofa and started to sob. Why was all of this happening to her? Hugo being a shit fiancé and now Ferran telling her she was being cheated on. Could it be true? Maybe she should have listened to him but...it just hurt so much.
She just stayed there, not knowing what to think or what to do. And then she heard the front door. Hugo was walking towards the stairs when he noticed Anna sitting down on the sofa.
"Baby, why are you still awake?", but then he noticed the gown she was wearing and realised. "Fuck. We were so busy with work. I forgot...did you win the award?"
"No. I lost a lot tonight".
"Anna, my love...".
"Do you even love me?", asked him Anna, wanting to cut through the bullshit and going straight to the point. She was so tired.
"Of course I do".
"I barely see you. You're never there when I need you. I don't know if you need me either. I guess you don't".
"Anna...".
"We're engaged, Hugo. We're getting married. We're going to spend our lives together. Together. Not like this. I deserve more than this".
"It'll change. I'll change. I'll be there for you, ok? I can't lose you. Please forgive me".
Hugo put his hand on the back of her head to bring her closer and kissed her gently but noticed Anna wasn't kissing him back.
"Baby...".
"You hurt me a lot. And it's not the first time".
"I know. And I'm so sorry. Please...please, forgive me. I'll beg if I have to".
When he tried to kiss her again, she kissed him back. But her mind was somewhere else. Back on the empty corridor where Ferran had kissed her. Why couldn't she feel the same way when it was Hugo who kissed her?
"Do I look pretty tonight?", she asked when Hugo was kissing her jaw and he looked at her confused.
"Huh? You always look pretty".
"I picked this dress because it's your favourite colour".
"All colours look good on you".
"But I picked it for you. So you could show me off on the red carpet".
"Baby, every single day, men all over the country wake up jealous of me because I have you and they don't".
A trophy. He always made her feel like a trophy. An achievement. Not like a person being loved.
"This is your last chance, Hugo".
"What?"
"If you mess up again, I'll leave. I don't want to feel empty inside like I do now".
"I won't mess up. I'll spoil you every single day. I swear", he promised.
"I just want to be loved. I don't care about being spoiled".
"I love you, Anna. I do. So much. I'll show you".
And it seemed like this time, he was taking things seriously. Every single second that Hugo and Anna were together, he made sure to shower her with love. He had never been like that, not even at the beginning of their relationship. And Anna started to feel a bit better.
She didn't love having to ignore Ferran and his texts but she couldn't keep doing that. She couldn't keep playing with fire the way she was doing. If she was going to marry Hugo, she had to be just Hugo's.
The issue was that Hugo wasn't just Anna's.
"What is...".
Anna kept reading the Twitter thread on her phone, breathing more heavily the more she read. And then she dropped the mug she was holding, which broke when it hit the floor.
"What happened? Are you ok?"
She looked up at Hugo, standing in front of her as if nothing had happened and threw the empty plate that was in front of her at him.
"You fucking bastard!"
