Chapter 43
Hiro Stanislaski's Point of View
As the son of the university owner, I was pretty much untouchable. The power, prestige, and authority were all thanks to being a Stanislaski. But there are always downsides to everything.
I felt like I was in the middle of a hurricane, and life was moving around me. I know I am part of it, but most of the time, it only passes me by. That's when I realized no one could move me.
Eventually, everything gets boring, and the world loses its color— not until I find a way to make my life interesting again. And that is to play with my life. I did a lot of unexplainable things. I almost gave my parents a heart attack when they found out that I had joined an illegal drag race and my car flipped over because of too much speed. But I survived, alright—no need to cry and make a fuss about it. The moment the adrenaline rushes through my body, for the first time, I feel alive.
When Xerxes Pennsylvania knew that I was the type of guy who didn't value my life, he invited me to join his newly founded organization. At nineteen, I knew it was only a silly group of guys hanging out. What was there to lose?
Xerxes Pennsylvania used to be my roommate back in the university. He was, let's say, really not that friendly. He was the cliché unsmiling, cold type kind of a guy— who hates his life because of external forces he can't manage. And when he invited me to join, I accepted it right away.
I blame my lack of judgment on this matter. Because the organization that I thought to be harmless turned out to be a fucking organized crime syndicate. Xerxes Pennsylvania made me join, not because he was looking for a friend or a company or whatever bullshit is there, but because I am a Stanislaski. Let's be real. If some other people knew that I was a member of this gang, the investment would flow through. Xerxes needed money. Large amount of it. And I don't fucking know why he needed money. Hindi rin naman ako interesado malaman. His first plan is to use a Stanislaski. Not that I mind. He made me an executive, giving me a sense of pride and importance. The moment I joined, there were already twelve members, and the rules were pretty much established. All of them have deep reasons why they joined this organization; I am the only one who joined because of boredom. Some see this as a threat. Some see this as an opportunity.
We ventured into the black market, selling guns and weapons. Kidd Ambrose, our tech guy, created an application where clients could purchase directly from the app. I thought it was cool. Our client didn't know that the members of this organization were only a bunch of university students.
From there, Xerxes decided to expand the organization by selling drugs. Ayos lang naman sa akin. It's not like I am going to use it. Xerxes wanted the organization to hurriedly get big and be well-known in the industry. I say we needed time to get there. I am a realist while Xerxes is a futurist. I didn't know that Xerxes has a big plans on his mind.
It was fun at first. I enjoyed my time in the organization. Not until Xerxes decided to go deeper.
He accepts a killing job.
"What is there to worry about, Hiro? Don't be such a pussy cat. We needed this. Para mas marami pa ang kumuha ng serbisyo natin. We only sell weapons and drugs! And it's not even that profitable."
"Don't tell me you are afraid of going to prison? Calm down, fucker. Wala ka naman dapat ikatakot. That's why Kidd created an application. So, every transaction is online. No one will know our faces and our age. All we need is for the other organization to acknowledge us. We need to make this big." I stared at his eyes, which were already dark and determined. All the executive's eyes are mine. Waiting for my decision.
