James couldn't take Regulus' death.

or, "No, James. I quite literally love you. Like in a romantic way. I love you."

"I love you, too."

They both genuinely smile, and James hasn't smiled like that in years.

James doesn't feel happy. He hasn't felt happy since his fifth year - when he was with Lily. Lily and James weren't meant for each other - especially when they're both gay. But James was so happy when he was with Lily. But James also knows Lily's happier with Pandora.

He's now in his seventh year and still waiting on his happy ending. Everyone he knows is dating. Marlene and Dorcas, Barty and Evan, Emmeline and Mary, Pandora and Lily, Remus and Sirius, Peter and Sybill, Alice and Frank, and Regulus is dating someone - James can't remember who. He thinks her name is Emma. Emma Vanity.

James wants his happy ending. Why can't he have a happy ending? Sure, everyone thinks he's happy, but in reality, he's not. He doesn't have anyone in his life. He's alone. No one.

Sometimes, he even talks to himself in the mirror. But that's only when he has too many cuts on his arms.

James looks up from his phone, and Regulus and Emma are walking by. It looks like they're fighting. Emma is throwing her hands up in the air, and Regulus' mouth his moving.

Emma has a drink in her hand. It looks like she's about to throw it. Then she starts laughing. Regulus is, too.

She screams, "You thought! We're not even dating!"

Everyone in the halls started murmuring. James' phone dings.

'James! Did you see the video!?'

'What video?'

'The one of Emma and Regulus. It went viral.'

'That just happened.'

'Rita works quickly.'

"Who you talkin' to?" James jumps.

"Just Marls. So, the fight. You weren't dating?"

"No," Regulus says. "We just let the rumors spiral."

Oh, did James mention he's crushing on his friend. No, wait, it's not crushing if he's in love. He's in love with his friend - not crushing.

Regulus is only friends with James because Sirius is dating Remus, which Remus is James' best friend. Which is why James always sees Sirius. This is also why he never hangs out with anyone. There's also another reason - everyone has a partner - but he's not getting into that.

James fakes a laugh. "It is funny."

Regulus smiles. "Yeah. It was fun for a while, but Barty got sick of the rumors and told us to tell everyone."

"Yeah."

"Are you ok?"

"Yeah, fine."

"No, you're not."

"Yes, I am."

"I know you."

"No, you don't. You don't know anything about me."
