Kevin's POV

The polite smile I’d been wearing for the better part of the evening faltered as my gaze swept across the ballroom.

I’d excused myself from a rather tedious conversation about trade agreements between packs, needing a breath of fresh air amidst the throng of well-wishers.

It had been a whirlwind of a day. Sixteen years. A milestone everyone had made such a fuss about. The party, the endless stream of well-wishers, the forced smiles for distant relatives - it was all a blur.

Even catching up with the pack felt more like an obligation than a genuine connection amidst the celebratory chaos. Rose leaving had been... different as she always stay till end .

She understood the undercurrents of my life, the complexities of being a Walton, the weight of expectations. Her quiet understanding was a balm in the storm of forced merriment.

Now, the echoes of laughter and music still vibrated through the grand ballroom, but the immediate frenzy had subsided. An unexpected wave of exhaustion washed over me, a longing for the quiet solitude that had become a rare commodity.

The cool night air was a welcome contrast to the stuffy warmth of the mansion. The manicured gardens, usually a familiar comfort, seemed different tonight, imbued with a strange sense of anticipation I couldn't quite place.

As I made my way back towards the main hall, my eyes landed on him. David.

Even from a distance, there was an undeniable pull, a subtle hum beneath my skin that I couldn't quite place. I'd known of David Williams for years, of course. Our parents were close, and his name often came up in conversation, usually accompanied by words like "talented," "alluring," and "strong." My mom , in particular, always spoke of his with a fondness that bordered on anticipation. But I’d never truly seen him, not dress like this.

then, it happened.

My inner wolf, usually a steady, silent presence, roared to life within me, a primal declaration that echoed through my very being.

Mate.

The world tilted on its axis. The celebratory music swelled and faded, the vibrant colours of the ballroom seemed to dim, and all that remained in sharp focus was him. David.

My mate.

A wave of pure, unadulterated joy surged through me, a feeling so profound it momentarily stole my breath. My mate. The word resonated with a depth I hadn't known possible, a missing piece of my soul finally found. And he was everything my inner wolf had instinctively known he would be – captivating, with an air of quiet strength that both intrigued and excited me.
