Jaeyun's POV

At that point, I couldn't tell whether I'd grown numb to my wife acting off or if I was simply choosing not to care.

Caring would've meant admitting something had gone wrong during dinner at Jongseong's. And admitting anything meant losing control.

Giselle might've loved throwing me under the bus, but our secret hadn't blown up in my face.

I'd chosen a life where everything was always at stake. Rose's behavior was just a reminder to stay sharp and never let petty bitches like Giselle get anywhere close to threatening me again.

Start with whoever had been blowing up my wife's phone for the past three days with texts she didn't even bother replying to.

"Hey, what are you doing? Stay here," I said as she got off my lap and turned off the TV.

I grabbed the nearest pillow before she could notice.

"Movie's over. I've got things to do." She leaned over me and pressed a quick kiss to my cheek.

"But—"

She ran upstairs before I could even start complaining. A second later, her office door locked.

Defeat. Loud and clear.

I muttered a curse under my breath and kicked the pillow off the couch. Apparently, a stack of paperwork and a laptop screen were more tempting than me. Fine. Her loss, not mine.

I reached for the remote to put on another movie and found her phone under the blanket instead. Not exactly the smartest place to leave it, considering how careful she'd been about keeping it close these past few days. I shot a quick glance around before unlocking it.

The latest notification was from an unknown number. I opened it.

3:56 PM: Hey, it's Jungkook again. Pick up your phone, we need to talk. It's important. I'll be at the bar near the police station at 9. Please come.

Jeon Jungkook.

I read the message three times just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating, then went through the rest: apologies, coffee invitations, talks, and eventually straight-up begging for a reply.

I thought he wouldn't have the guts to drag my wife into that shit, but he kept his word. And for that, bravo. Shame he didn't take me seriously when I told him to mind his own business or I'd kill him.

Looks like it was time to make good on that threat.

I locked the phone and put it back exactly where I'd found it.
