Rose's POV

Must've been the wind that blew a new phone onto Jaeyun's desk.

I grabbed it and buried it at the bottom of my bag.

My hangover made me forget about it for a while, until my hand brushed against it again in the hospital waiting room.

I was there to pick up a copy of Shin Yuna's medical records.

The lock screen was plain black, still showing the wrong time, and the phone was cracked from front to back.

"What happened to your phone?"

I flinched, turning to my right. Jongseong had just come out of an examination room. Glasses on, hair slicked back, lab coat sleeves rolled up to his forearms.

"That's not mine." I quickly shoved it back into my bag.

"So what—did you steal it?"

He sat down next to me. I stayed still, trying to figure out what the alcohol had or hadn't made me forget.

"Um, Rose? Are you okay?"

"You..." I frowned. "Where's Jaeyun?"

He let out a small, confused chuckle. "Why are you asking me? I don't know. He doesn't really tell me his schedule."

I pulled my phone out of my trench coat and opened Messages.

"He said he'd be with you."

I showed him the screen.

9:03 AM: If you're looking for me, I'm with Jongseong today. Love you, honey. Have a good day.

Jongseong took the phone from my hands and reread the message like the answer to JFK's assassination was hidden between the lines or something.

"I wasn't supposed to be with him today. My coworkers are swamped, I'm just helping out."

Between surgeries, Jongseong worked overtime whenever needed, helping lighten the load for the doctors and nurses.

The hospital's sweetheart.

"But..." He handed me my phone back. I read the message again. "Never mind."
