- the next morning -
Rose's POV
Nothing could've prepared me for Jungkook's greeting at the station.
Sunoo had texted earlier that he wouldn't make it, saying I was grown enough to face his cousin on my own.
Fine. I intended to prove him right.
"Caramel iced latte. They were out of vanilla." Jungkook met me in the lobby and held out a cup.
I actually smiled as I took it. "Let me guess... Sunoo?"
"Yeah." He took a sip from his cup. "What the hell did you do to Evan? After you left, he was head over heels. Didn't think he'd fall that hard."
"You had expectations?"
"Answer my question first."
He led me down to Evan. I always made an impression on first meetings, but the idea that I'd left him head over heels? I didn't buy it.
"I didn't do anything to him, officer. What do you mean, head over heels?"
"Can't say. Male solidarity and all that." He grinned. "But trust me, head over dick."
It was too good to be true. Five minutes and he was back to his pimp mode. Record time. Call Guinness.
"Great." I sighed. "Anything else I should know?"
He went quiet. A little too quiet. I didn't think he could go silent like that. His expression hardened as he downed his coffee in one gulp. My eyes narrowed, interested.
"Uh, yeah. He found out this morning he'd be spending the night in jail."
"Fuck."
He hummed as he pulled his keys from his pocket, stopping as we reached the interrogation room.
"Judge Jang's orders. Stupid, but inevitable. Even Evan knew it."
Still, it sucked.
He opened the door and let me in. I stepped inside, hoping Evan wouldn't lose his temper in front of me. He'd barely been arrested, and he was already due to be in jail awaiting trial. He wasn't built for that. He didn't deserve to be thrown in there for a mistake.
At the very least, he should've been in therapy to recover from the devil in disguise.
"Rose?"
I looked up from the notebook I'd been scribbling in for the past few minutes. Evan nodded at the coffee I'd barely touched. It couldn't get any colder anyway.
"I'm thirsty... mind if I try your coffee?"
I pushed the cup toward him. His cuffed hands reached for it, his lips brushing the lid. My lipstick smudged onto his mouth. He drank anyway.
