Rose's POV
On the way back home, I couldn't stop thinking about that morning. Jungkook's questions kept running through my head. Why would he even ask that?
It felt like he was interrogating me off the record, and it twisted my stomach. Thankfully, meeting Evan wiped it all away.
Sunoo had already set up a second meeting with Evan for the next day, but I was bracing myself for his cousin's brash attitude. Was curiosity a crime? If not, it should've been for Jung fucking Kook.
By the time I got home, I had something more important to deal with.
"Jaeyun, we need to talk," I said as I burst into the living room.
I found him sprawled out on one of the sofas, lazily scrolling through his laptop like he owned the place, and knew it. Easy, unbothered.
I walked over. If he thought he could ignore me, we were about to find out. I leaned over him and slammed his laptop shut.
He shot to his feet, pushing it aside, and glared at me. "Hey. I was working."
Hard to believe the Monaco Casino website was actually part of an ongoing case.
"Sure you were. Unlike your secretary, I called her on the way. She's fired." I snapped.
"Goddamn it, Rose..." he huffed. "What were you thinking? She didn't do anything wrong."
Because hooking up with a married man to fill the void in every sense of the word wasn't a bad thing? And in his car, of all places. Thank God there'd never be a child seat in there. Nothing about "your dad almost cheated on your mom right here" felt particularly romantic.
"I'm warning you, Jae," I said, barely holding back worse. "Burn it, clean it, I don't care. I smell her perfume again, I kill you both."
The hardness in his gaze gave way to that puppy look, and I already knew the routine. Before he could say anything, I headed upstairs.
"Fine," he grumbled. "Hold on."
I paused on the stairs. "Hm?"
"Tonight. Jongseong's. Dress up."
I rolled my eyes and kept walking.
After such a long day, dinner didn't sound appealing. But I genuinely liked Jongseong and his cooking. I'd never turn down an invitation from him. Over time, he'd become a close friend.
The only hitch was his fiancée, Giselle. We'd never gotten along. She was unbearable, and I'd tried, really tried. Eventually, I gave up on the idea of us ever being friends.
