Rose's POV
The next morning kicked off quickly.
My husband was already gone when I opened my eyes at 7. He'd left me in cold, empty sheets.
When I got up and stretched, that sinking feeling hit me in the gut, like Sunoo's text was missing something. I ignored it, washed down two anxiety pills with a vanilla latte, and got on with my morning. Shower, clothes, fifteen minutes on my blowout, another twenty on my makeup.
And as I reached for my jewelry box on the closet shelf, I noticed the note Jaeyun had left on it:
"Took your car. Look after mine."
Inside was the key fob to his ferrari. I threw it into my trench coat pocket, then put on my cross necklace, new bracelet, and earrings. Wherever my friend's half-baked plan took me, at least I looked put together.
At first, I didn't think much of driving my husband's car, even though he hated sharing it with anyone. It was a gift from his father, so of course it held a special place for him.
I should've thought twice, especially when I got in and that same perfume, lingering in the leather, hit me.
Cherry, black rose, amber.
I couldn't believe he actually left me the keys to the car where that soon-to-be-fired secretary had tried to get with him.
Fuck you, Jaeyun.
The drive to the precinct should've taken only ten minutes, but New York traffic stretched it to fifty.
I managed to park the car just around the corner, drawing every passerby's attention the moment I stepped out. Blending in with a car that red was a gamble.
"Can I see your driver's license, miss?" someone said behind me.
I'd heard that voice before. Don't tell me that... I turned and got hit in the face by a puff of cigarette smoke. I coughed, squinting through it to see the bastard who'd done it.
Once the smoke cleared, I was face to face with a cop, a cigarette dangling from his lips, smirking.
Completely confused, I fumbled through my bag for my license.
"Forget that." I looked up. "How's Sim Jaeyun doing?" he snickered.
My eyes landed on his badge: Officer Jeon.
"Last night's call, it's y—"
"Get lost, Kook. Let her breathe a second."
Over the cop's shoulder, I spotted my best friend, coffee in hand, smiling warmly. Did they know each other?
