Very early this morning, around 3 o'clock, Jaeyun had left. I was awakened by the sound of his car and the dazzling headlights reflecting off the wet window. Do I really need to tell you how unusual this is? The most astonishing fact was that he'd managed to make zero noise until then.

I was starting to get up when I noticed a piece of paper taped to the nightstand: "Sorry, Rose. Emergency at work." I crumpled up the paper, my husband hadn't suddenly become a doctor, so he had no valid reason to leave at 3 a.m.

"Fucking liar..."

I didn't think the worst of it, I just thought Jay must have called to offer him a moment between two rich old friends. I left my questions for later, as my fatigue and aching body were making themselves felt.

With two coffees in my stomach I had to face my husband, who came home like an innocent man at 9 this time. He was very fresh and bubbly for a dedicated lawyer who just spent six hours dealing with a supposed emergency. Great demonstration of what self-control is.

"Let me guess. A cannibal has asked you, the great Sim Jaeyun, to represent him in court."

He laughed as he ran a hand through his hair, even guilty he had the gift of being irresistibly innocent. My eyes never stopped following his movements, through my fake lashes and mascara I gave the impression of being an undercover spy. Suddenly he grabbed me by the waist and pushed me aside, slightly but still.

"My secretary messed up with some important documents. Is that all you want to know?"

I turned to wrap my thin arms around his neck, my chest pressed against his back. At least this attention made him smile. As he waited for his coffee to brew, I could feel him playing with my fingers, especially my ring. His touch tickled me every single time.

"You think I'm lying?"

The reproaches could be heard in his voice, so I didn't dare answer yes, my face betrayed me anyway. Let's be honest, who was the real problem: him, who left suddenly, or me, who like every woman overthought?

Doubt is legitimate even when you love the man who shares your life, and after three years of marriage the stage of marital crises has only just begun.

"Excuse toi."

This time I had no trouble understanding that he wanted me to apologize, I rolled my eyes. No matter the place or the context, even during a war, Jaeyun would still need my apology to prove he was right. I laughed at first, but as time went by it became... actually no ideal word existed to describe the whole situation.

"I'm sorry Jae, you are the most handsome, intelligent and masculine man on earth... Even Apollo blanched at your beauty."

"Of course he did."

It was sincerely forced but his ego wouldn't care. He turned to face me and tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. Our lips were only a few inches apart, the temptation was so strong that I stood on tiptoe to taste his. He suddenly put his finger on mine to keep me away causing my incomprehension, Jaeyun never refused a kiss before.

"Aren't you supposed to be at work?"

"No I'm working here today." I answered.

He nodded before picking up his cup and leaving the kitchen. The little draught that followed froze my heart, the fact that I was staying home seemed to be a problem and neither I understood nor liked this behavior.
