Jonathan POV

"And they're sure that they'll come through here?" "That's what they said at the briefing." I sighed, peering through my KAR98K scope at the snow-covered dirt road from our vantage point, high up on the hill, fully camouflaged with ghillie suits. The General had briefed us that, every week, Enemy transports carrying vital ammunitions, weapons, and other supplies, drove through to FIA locations.

It had been fourteen hours already, and the frigid, snow-covered landscape remained untouched, as it had been when we'd first arrived. "Starting to think it's a false, that no one actually comes through here." "There was that one patrol." "Yeah, and no one came to get them after we off'ed them." Ash and I had been debating the situation for the past thirty minutes, mostly reaching the conclusion that no one else was actually out here. I heard snow crunching behind me, and I turned my head to see Marcus offering a can of stewed clams.

"Thanks Marcus." I spooned the foul-tasting food into my mouth, gagging a little before quickly chugging it down. "Ugh, no one likes clams regularly, who thought anyone would like them stewed?" "Dunno, but they're high in nutrients, so eat up." I yawned, and rested my chin on the stock of my rifle, lazily watching the empty road. "Echo Delta Team be advised, thermals are picking up a few vehicles entering the valley, most likely civilian. Stay sharp, over."

"Solid copy RE Team, thanks for the heads up, over." I peered through the scope, and I watched as an SUV and a small moving truck pulled onto the road, driving somewhat slow given the snow. "Might just be civilians." "And they could also be the transport." "You're not gonna fire on potential civilians?!" "I'm cold and tired. We smell like shit. We've been here for hours on end. I'm not staying sitting in this damned place for a minute longer than necessary. They're the only blustering bastards who have come into this damn valley since we got here, it's them."

I took aim at the driver of the SUV, seeing a familiar patch on the shoulder of the driver. "Bingo, patch ID'd, it's them." I placed the crosshairs directly on the driver, slowly squeezing the trigger-BANG! There was an echoing sound of glass shattering, and I saw a cloud of red mist spray up. I watched as fully-armed FIA insurgents scattered out of the SUV, and the truck began to back up rapidly. 'No you don't.' I took aim and squeezed off another shot, nailing the two in the cab.

"This is Echo Delta-01, we have positive ID on the FIA transport, requesting air support, be advised both vehicles are immobilized and we have armed hostiles confirmed." "Roger that Echo Delta, gunship lifting off now, ETA two minutes." Ash threw her radio back into its slot, and picked up her assault rifle.

"Move up!" I squeezed off one more round, nailing one right in the arm before quickly chambering three more rounds in before slamming the bolt closed and sliding it back onto my pack, being replaced by my M16. "Covering!" Peering through the thermal imaging, I could see the last three taking shelter behind the SUV, seemingly bulletproof. Looking through the scope, I used bullet ricochet to my advantage and hit one, causing him to fall and allowing me to deliver a fatal headshot.

"Two more are still standing, box em in." I could see the tagged forms of Todd and Marcus going around the back, and I could hear the echoing gunshots felling the remaining FIA. "All hostiles down, payload secure." Trudging the remaining distance, I finally reached the convoy, seeing the now-lifeless bodies of scum.

"They were relatively underarmed, given that this is their only way to resupply." Todd declared, picking up a rusty AK, which had definitely seen better days. "Maybe they're just that overwhelmed." "Or maybe, we're not alone." I scanned the area, which was pretty empty until-"SNIPER GET DOWN!" Marcus shoved me, just as a bullet cracked past my skull, nailing the side of the truck. "Enemy sniper in the tree line!"

"Base this is Actual! What's the ETA on that gunship?!" "We're above you right now Echo Delta." An Apache suddenly whooshed overhead, and echoing booms began to echo around the tight space as it's powerful 30 mm machine gun laid down suppressive fire into the forest, effectively destroying the sniper and any other potential enemies.

"This is Nighthawk-5, we are bingo fuel, RTB at this ti-" A rocket suddenly ripped through the air, obliterating the unsuspecting gunship to a flaming frame of metal, and I could only watch as it spun down, exploding on impact. "This is Echo Delta-03! Nighthawk-5 is down! More hostiles inbound! Requesting extraction!" "Roger that Echo Delta, extraction is readying up now, ETA suspected in five minutes." "We don't have five minutes!"

I spotted a fox trying to do a solo charge, and I brought my rifle up, putting two in his chest. As he collapsed, I saw a familiar sight peer up. "Juggernaut spotted! Get behind cover now!" I took aim, but the bullets only bounced off harmlessly. "Damit! He's got too much armor!" "Maybe this'll help!" I saw Todd climb off the supply truck, a Javelin in his hands. "Bit overkill, but it'll work." He took aim, and a high-pitched tone sounded as the rocket exploded out of the tube, whooshing towards the Jug.

There was an ear-splitting explosion, and something heavy landed just behind me, and turning around, I saw the Jug's helmet, along with the top half of his skull, already putting a pool of blood on the snow. "Jug is down! Be advised FIA are pushing up!" I pulled Tod behind the SUV, and I quickly shot the tires to reduce risk of bullets ricocheting under the chassis. "This is Echo Delta-09! We are pinned down and taking heavy fire! What's the ETA on that exfil-"

A bullet cracked through the glass, shooting the radio right out of my hand and onto the ground, in pieces. "Damit!" I peered out of cover, shooting a soldier that was attempting to lob a grenade into our cover. "Last mag!" I slapped the last magazine from my carrier into my rifle, pulling back the charging handle. I peeked up, but was sent sprawling backwards as a sniper nailed me right in the shoulder.

I screamed aloud as pain erupted in my shoulder, and I felt someone pulling me back behind cover. "Ash! Hand me the gauze from my bag!" I could see Tammy applying dressing and gauze to my wound, and I winced as she firmly applied pressure. "Just a flesh wound." I groaned. "I'm out of ammo! Anyone got a mag?!" "I'm out too!" I could hear Todd and Marcus shouting. I could see them leaning against the car, their ammunitions exhausted and their guns void of any magazine.

I pulled out my M1911, offering it to Marcus. "You got two extra mags, only shoot what you can hit damit." He took the sidearm, peering out of cover to squeeze off two shots before dodging back into cover. "When's that damn chopper getting here?!" Suddenly, I heard blades chopping, and machine gun fire filled the air as the familiar sight of our exfil bird flew by overhead, laying down machine gun fire and rockets on the charging FIA. "Exfil's here! Let's move!"

I was hoisted up by Tammy, and I saw as the chopper descended, allowing us to quickly jump inside before rapidly ascending up again. I saw Todd take aim with a rocket launcher, firing a rocket at the transport, and a resounding BOOM was heard. "Damn Jonathan, you get worse every mission." I chuckled lightly as Marcus made a valid point. "Yeah well, thats the thing about me, I keep gettin' back up."
