A week had passed and all I did was train.
Tran and train and train...
I practiced my forms until I was to weak to continue.
I punched the punching bag until my knuckle's bleb
And I...
I tried to tap into that part of me that now lay dormant.
I planned on asking Dad what happened to me that day. Why I blacked out like that... I just needed some time. Time to sort out my emotions. I don't think I would do anyone good right now. I wouldn't want to hurt someone I care about.
Especially those new kids.
Speaking of...
I also found out that Benzo rescued another two children whose names were Claggor and Mylo, but I haven't gone to see any of them yet.
That's how I found myself sitting on a stool in The Last Drop waiting for my Dad.
A minute later, Dad strolled through the doors who four children who were lagging him. I stood stock still in the middle of the room, waiting for them to come to me. I didn't know how I felt about Dad taking care of more children, but I knew he had a bleeding heart.
I knew he'd do anything for the Lanes.
"Dina, these kids will be with us from now on. The one with the pink hair is Vi. Go one Vi introduce yourself." Vander said as he ruffled her hair.
Vi separated from the other children and stood in front of me. The girl was shorter than me, so she had to look up. When she did meet my eyes, I saw the hard glare she was staring at me with. She looked tough, but I was tougher.
Definitely going to be an issue...
I decided to be the diplomatic one and stuck out my hand for a handshake.
"Nice to meet you, Vi. I'm Dina." I said with a smirk
"Whatever..." Vi said as she dismissed me and walked back to the group of kids.
My eye twitched at her rudeness, but I wasn't going to let it affect me.
I heard Dad sigh, but he glossed over it.
"Alright. Next is Claggor..."
Claggor was nice.
He actually had manners unlike the rude pink haired one. He was also shyer which I didn't mind. He seemed like the type of used his head more than fists which made me almost cry tears of joy. I needed another person who didn't run headfirst into situations. I knew I got the with Vi, so Claggor was blessing.
After I introduced myself and talked with him, he went back to the other kids.
"Glad you get along. Someone could learn a thing or two from your civility huh?" Dad said to everyone, but we all knew who that was directed at.
Vi scoffed.
I rolled my eyes.
Vi glared at me, but I ignored her.
"Next is Mylo..."
Mylo was... an ass
The kid didn't know when to shut up.
The first thing he commented on was why I was so big for a girl. It made me clench my jaw and narrow my eyes at the kid. My fists itched to be let loose, but I held back for Dad's sake. I didn't want to break one of his strays the first time we met.
The attitude wouldn't last anyway.
If Mylo kept it up, then he would learn why I shouldn't be messed with.
But...
I could see his true personality shine through when he was making an ass out of himself. He was smart. Street smart. He had a knack for understanding how the real world worked, and he was the same age as me. It wasn't exactly surprising though. We were kids who grew up in the Undercity.
Our greeting was coming to an end, and we shook hands.
"Oh, and Mylo?" I said.
"Yeah?" Mylo replied.
I squeezed his hand as tight as I could.
Mylo startled at my strength, but only grimaced in response which raised my evaluation of him.
"You understand?" I whispered.
"Y-yep, I understand." Mylo said with a nervous chuckle.
"Good." I said as I let go of his hand.
Mylo went back to the kids and my eyes fell on the last one to be introduced.
"Now this is Powder. She's younger then the rest, so I want you to look out for her all right Dina?"
I nodded my head at Dad and turned my attention to the younger kid.
"My name is Dina. It's nice to meet you." I said with a warm smile.
"Nice to meet you to... I'm Powder." Powder introduced.
"A pretty name for a pretty girl." I said.
Powder giggled at me, and my heart melted.
Oh, she's cute...
In one smooth motion, I picked up the adorable child. She squeaked in protest, but looked around wildly when at her new height when I was done.
"Now, what's an adorable kid like you doing with a rude kid like pink hair huh? I bet its just awful having to deal with that." I whispered as my eyes darted over to the girl in question.
Powder giggled again.
"Vi's not so bad..." Powder said.
"Mhm. And I'm going to be a councilor one day." I said with a roll of my eyes.
Before Powder could reply, Vi decided she needed to be in this conversation.
"Hey! What do you think your doing with Powder?" Vi said angrily.
"Talking?" I responded without even looking at her.
"Look at me when I'm talking to you. You- you tall fu-"
"Vi! What did I say about cussing?" Dad reprimanded.
Vi stopped in her tracks and looked at Dad with a clenched jaw.
"Not to do it..." Vi muttered.
"That's right. Then don't do it." Dad said with a raised brow.
"Yes, sir..." Vi replied downcast.
I sighed and looked at Powder who was watching Vi.
"I think we've introduced ourselves, so how about you cheer up Vi." I said with a kind smile.
"Sure! I love cheering her up!" Powder said excitedly as she hopped down from my arms.
I watched Powder run to Vi and give her a big hug.
Vi's eyes turned toward Powder and her eyes softened. A big smile came on her face at the realization that the cute kid was giving her a hug. Vi hugged powder back and I thought that maybe the rude girl wasn't that bad...
Today was the day that four more got added to our rag-tag group.
I might've lost my Mom, but I gained four people who would become a part of me and Dad's life. Dad had a tendency to do this with kids. But this time it was different. He was building something. These weren't just kids that he took pity on. We were taking them in. These kids were here to stay. They were important.
Important people who I would do anything for.
