Chapter 30 - Fracture

After the Council meeting...

POV: Vi

Fuck this.

And fuck them.

What do they know about what Silco has done?

What do they know about our struggles?

Negotiating?

With Silco?!

Are they fucking stupid?

And why was Dina just standing there and agreeing with them?

I don't get it.

I don't fucking get it!

I stormed out of the Council building, raced down the steps, and tried to get away from here as fast as fucking possible.

I didn't care if it was raining.

I matched my fucking mood.

"Vi! Wait!" Caitlyn called out behind me. "Wait! Where are you going?"

I slowed my run to a walk.

"I don't fucking know. Back to where I came from? Seems like that's what everyone up here wants." I sneered.

"My parents want you here. Dina wanted you here. I wanted you here. Just- just wait. Please. I can fix this. We can fix this. All three of us. Together. Isn't that what we had just talked about this morning? Vi..." Caitlyn yelled over the downpouring rain.

I turned around feeling anger rise within my chest.

"You fucking can't! Neither can Dina! She's been here more than us, but it didn't get her anything! People on your Council work for Silco! She said it herself and they looked guilty as hell! This is how things are, and this is how they'll always be!" I yelled, frustration spurring me on. "Everyone up here looks at Dina and I like we're shit beneath their boots! Once Silco is gone Dina will be a leader for fuck's sake! But it doesn't matter. Some people may care, but it isn't enough. We were so fucking stupid to think it could change."

"There must be something else we can do. Some other way." Caitlyn begged as she stepped closer to me. "We'll make a new plan. We have to... We have to try..." She said, her voice cracking.

That intense feeling was back in my stomach...

And right now?

It made me want to fucking cry.

Or fucking punch something.

This was all so much bullshit.

"We fucking tried, okay? It wasn't' enough. It's never enough. Topside and bottom. Oil and water. That's all there fucking is." I said as I wiped the wet hair out my eyes and angrily kicked at the pooling water I was standing in.

"That's not true. What about us? We have a bond. You, me, and Dina. Damnit, we have a bond! That means something!" Caitlyn cried.

I didn't know what to do.

We did, but...

How were we supposed to do this?

I rubbed at my eyes angrily as tears started to form and I felt like screaming out into the sky at how unfair everything was.
