I woke up with a groan

I felt a heavy weight on top of me and I felt like a million knives had sunk into my body all at once.

The pain was so intense...

I had never felt anything like his before.

Pain is pain, but...

This was just so much pain.

I didn't understand what was happening to me.

I tried opening my eyes, but one of them was obstructed by...

Something.

I couldn't see out of left eye.

Fuck...

My body hurt so much...

With my enhanced hearing, I heard debris move and I saw that Pops was standing up.

Alive... Pops is alive!

Pops was pushing the debris off him with his back slowly but surely and eventually stood up to his full height. He staggered a little and needed to brace himself on the wall, but he kept moving forward.

Through my one good eye, I saw a goon run into the room, but Pops knocked him unconscious in one hit. I saw him break off some metal that he could grab with his hands. He used them as knuckle dusters and walked out of the room to confront the remaining goons that were still in one piece.

I lifted my head up slightly to see Pop easily knock out the first goon and throw him over the railing.

Pops then walked up to that thing.

The thing threw a punch with its right arm, but Pop caught it and punched it hard in the stomach.

I could see the thing spew purple liquid from its mouth when the hit landed.

Pops did it again and again... until the thing was up against the railing.

I wanted to scream out when I saw it cock its arm back and hit Pop in this shoulder.

It then grabbed Pops' face with its hands and headbutted him.

It put Pop over its shoulder and body slammed him on the walkway.

I heard crying when that happened.

It came from within the room.

Someone... was still alive?

I turned my face to the side and could see Vi looking at our family who was buried within the rubble. She was crying and stuck under some rubble like I was.

I wanted so desperately to call out to her.

Tell her everything would be ok.

Tell her that I've had feeling for and would love to call her my girlfriend

Tell her that we would make it through this and would avenge the people we had lost today...

But I couldn't say any of that.

My voice was gone, and I could only watch as the girl I loved cried over our family who was most likely dead.

Vi started to cry harder when she saw something amid the debris.
