The compound was quieter than usual, the remnants of a once bustling hub of heroes now echoing with the sounds of distant nature. Bucky Barnes sat on a bench in the garden, the sun casting a warm glow on his metal arm. He glanced at the woman sitting next to him, Y/N, the daughter he had never expected but had desperately sought.

It was only weeks ago that Bucky, with the help of Sam Wilson, had found her, the woman who had been a test subject in the same Hydra base where he had been enslaved some years before. Y/N was now 25, no longer the child he remembered but still carrying the weight of her past. She had been subjected to cruel experiments that granted her the power to manipulate the elements.

Bucky remembered the first time he saw her, a young girl with eyes too old for her years, surrounded by fire she couldn't control. He grew to love her quickly, even when he was under as the Winter Solider, her always remembered her. He would not let any harm come to her when he was there. He had vowed to save her one day.

"Are you okay?" Bucky's voice broke through Y/N's thoughts. She looked up at him, her eyes reflecting the internal storm she constantly fought to control. Y/N loved Bucky like a father. He was the only thing she could remember from her past.

"I'm trying," she replied, her voice steady but laced with uncertainty. "It's just... a lot sometimes."

Bucky nodded, understanding all too well. "It takes time," he said gently. "But you're strong. Stronger than you know."

Y/N smiled faintly. "I had a good teacher," she said, her gaze meeting his. "You kept me going, even when I was alone."

The memory of the Hydra base in Germany flashed in Bucky's mind. He had spent months tracking down the location, a hidden facility buried in the Black Forest. When he finally found it, he stormed in, his metal arm a blur of destruction, with Sam at his side providing aerial support. They had fought through countless guards and scientists, their sole focus was on finding Y/N.

He found her in a small, dark cell, her wrists bound by metal cuffs designed to suppress her powers. Her eyes widened in shock when she saw him, but she quickly hid her fear behind a mask of defiance.

"It's me, Y/N," Bucky had said softly, kneeling before her. "I'm here to take you home. I am sorry it took so long."

She had stared at him for a moment, disbelief and hope warring in her eyes. "Dad?" She question with a sob, she had thrown herself into his arms, and he had held her tightly, promising her safety and freedom.

"I'm here baby girl. I got you." Bucky did his best to calm her and vowed that he would always keep her safe.

In his Smart Hulk form, Bruce Banner had welcomed Y/N. The compound was almost empty, as the losses of Steve, Natasha, and Tony weighing heavily on everyone. Bruce was now in charge at the compound, doing his best to keep the legacy of the Avengers alive.

Now, as they sat in the tranquil garden of the compound, Bucky felt a sense of peace he hadn't known in years. Y/N was safe, and he would do everything in his power to help her heal and grow.

"I wish I could have known them. The Avengers," Y/N said suddenly, breaking the silence.

Bucky's heart ached at her words. The Avengers were scattered now, their team fractured after the battle with Thanos. But they were still a family, and Bucky knew they would welcome Y/N with open arms. "We'll honor them by living and fighting for a better world."

After months of training, Y/N had come to a decision. She wanted to be a part of the rebuilding Avengers. Her control over her elemental powers had grown stronger, and she was determined to use her abilities to help others.
