The plane began its descent, and Elizabeth stared out the window, the city below slowly coming into focus. Her heart sank with the realization that her time with Y/N was coming to an end—at least for now. She glanced down at their intertwined hands, a connection neither of them had let go of since Y/N had drifted off to sleep.

Y/N's head rested lightly on Elizabeth's shoulder, her soft breaths warm against Elizabeth's skin. Elizabeth had leaned her own head against Y/N's, closing her eyes to savor the quiet intimacy of the moment. It felt fleeting, yet it carried the weight of all the years they had lost. A single moment, but it held the gravity of a lifetime.

As the plane touched down, Elizabeth gently nudged Y/N awake. "Hey," she whispered, her voice soft, almost reluctant. "We're here."

Y/N stirred, her lashes fluttering as she blinked herself awake. For a moment, she looked disoriented, then realization dawned. She sat up quickly, clearing her throat, though her hand lingered in Elizabeth's. "Sorry," she murmured, her voice heavy with sleep. "I didn't mean to—"

"It's okay," Elizabeth interrupted, her tone warm and reassuring. "I didn't mind."

Y/N glanced at her, something unreadable in her eyes, before nodding and finally letting go of Elizabeth's hand. The absence was immediate, like an ache neither of them wanted to acknowledge. They gathered their belongings in silence, the weight of the impending goodbye thickening the air between them.

As they gathered their belongings, Elizabeth broke the silence. "Where are you staying?" she asked, her voice casual, though her expression betrayed her longing.

"A hotel near the stadium," Y/N replied, adjusting the strap of her bag.

Elizabeth hesitated, biting her lip before speaking. "You should come by my place tonight. I'd love to have you over," she said, her tone deliberately light. Then, with a small smile, she added, "I promise my cooking's better than room service."

Y/N froze for a fraction of a second, her mind spinning as she considered the invitation. "Well, um... I'm heading straight to rehearsal," she said cautiously. "And those usually run late. But I'll call you. I just don't want to keep you waiting."

Elizabeth's shoulders sagged slightly, but she forced a smile, masking her disappointment. "Okay, yeah. Just let me know." She held out her hand. "Here, give me your phone. I'll add my number."

Y/N handed it over, watching as Elizabeth quickly called her own phone.

"There," Elizabeth said, handing it back with a small, satisfied smile. "Now I've got yours, too."

Y/N chuckled softly, pocketing her phone. But inside, her thoughts churned. Of course, she wanted to see Elizabeth. She wanted nothing more than to keep this connection alive. But as a married woman, she knew she was toeing a dangerous line. Trusting herself in Elizabeth's presence was becoming harder by the second.
