Y/N's POV

"Mom!"

Two identical voices shout in unison as I walk up the driveway.

The door bursts open, and before I can blink, my boys are flying toward me. Billy with his arms already stretched out, Tommy a streak of motion at his side. I drop to my knees, bracing for impact, and they crash into me like they always do, all laughter, warmth, and the faint smell of birthday cake already on their clothes.

"My birthday boys!" I beam, wrapping them both in a hug so tight I never want to let go. "How are you two? You're not giving your momma too much trouble, I hope."

They pull back just enough to grin at me but stay close, leaning into my shoulders like they've been waiting all morning for this moment.

"No, Mom. We've been good. And I've kept Tommy in line," Billy says, all matter-of-fact.

Tommy immediately scowls at him. "Billy's lying, Mom. I've been a saint."

I laugh under my breath, shaking my head. "Mm, somehow I highly doubt that. But I'm so happy to see you both. You ready for today? How's your momma?"

Billy hesitates, his brow furrowing. "She's... okay. We think."

Tommy blurts it out before Billy can stop him. "She argues with her boyfriend a lot." He crosses his arms. "Mom, can't you just fix things with Momma and come back home?"

Their words land heavy in my chest, but I keep my cool and reaction steady for them. I smooth Tommy's hair back and cup Billy's cheek with my other hand. "I'm sorry you boys have to see that. But you need to be strong for your momma, okay? And listen, she and I, we both love you more than anything. That's one thing that will never change. But your momma and I... we just couldn't make it work. And as much as I want you two to be happy, I want her to be happy as well. Even if it isn't with me. Do you understand?"

"Yeah," they mumble together, eyes downcast.

"Hey, hey, no sad faces today!" I lift their chins gently, forcing them to meet my smile. "This is the greatest day ever. It's your birthday! And we are going to party and have too much fun. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yeah," they reply, still soft.

I arch a brow, playful. "Sorry, I couldn't hear you."

"Yeah!!" they shout, and that spark I love finally returns.

"That's more like it. Now, why don't you both go check out the jumper I set up in the backyard?" I wiggle my brows teasingly at them.

"No way!" Tommy bolts like lightning.

"Thanks, Mom!" Billy plants a quick kiss on my cheek before dashing after him.

"Love you, boys!" I call after them, my voice catching as I watch them disappear around the corner. The sound of Tommy's squeal of excitement drifts back, tugging at my heart.
