Madeline-
After my fight with Draco, I managed to calm down, accept the fact that he was still angry about the way we left things. I wouldn't blame him of course, if my boyfriend suddenly told me he was engaged to another women, and couldn't be together anymore, I'd still be angry. I finished the last of my paperwork and decided to call it a day. I decided to floo into my father's office.
"Madeline, perfect timing. Dinners in an hour." Father said, I stepped out of the fireplace. I whipped the soot off my suit and managed a smile at my dad.
"Yeah, I know. I'm always perfect." Father chuckled at my joke. There were several piles of papers that he needed to get through before he presented his new law to the parliament. He was trying to preserve several different forests, there were tons of companies trying to buy them and destroy them to make amusement parks or hotels.
"You better go clean up before your mum starts yelling." He said, I nodded muttering a 'see you later,' before walking out of his office.
"Princess Madeline!" Colin shouted, he stared at me his mouth agape.
"When did you get here?" He asked,
"Um...when you were in the bathroom." I shrugged; I didn't let him say another word before I walked out. My room was so far from my dad's office, it took five minutes before I finally reached it. I didn't want to bother Meredith, so I turned on my own shower on and took out my vanilla and coconut shampoo and coconut body wash out. I didn't linger in the shower like I wanted too, dinner was going to start in 30 minutes, and I was starving.
I hoped out of the shower, used my wand to dry my hair and style it before changing into a comfortable pair of boyfriend trousers, and a green sweater before I walked downstairs, I had just barely made it on time, the rest of my family was already there, including Michelle, Elijah's girlfriend since Hogwarts. She currently worked as a healer at Saint Mungo's.
"Madeline, right on time. We thought you were going to be late." Mum said, as I sat down across from her. I shrugged a shoulder as our butler's brought out our dinner plates.
"I was taking a shower."
"How was your first day of work?" Grace, my sister, asked.
"It was good. I had a bunch of paperwork to get through. The stack was all the way to my chin." I said, pointing at my chin.
"Then it was a bunch of meetings with the department heads. It was a long day." I said, cutting into my chicken. My mouth was watering already staring at my piece of parmesan chicken, with roasted potatoes and asparagus.
"You want to know what I did?" Elijah asked.
"What?" Dad asked, Elijah picked up two forks using them as little puppets as he told his story.
"I had to fight this blind troll who was guarding this bag of diamonds that the ministry wanted, and he almost bite me. He grabbed my leg when I was dangling from the ceiling, he pulls up my pants legs, and he tries to sink his teeth into me before I managed to kick him in the nose." Elijah said, he smacked his forks together, the right one flew out of his hands landing in Grace's cup of water.
"Whoops." Elijah said, Dad chuckled as he pressed the red intercom button next to him. The one connected right to the kitchen.
"Allen, please bring anther cup and fork. My children are still five apparently."
"Yes, Your Majesty. Right away." Allen said.
"I am not five. The fork just flew out of my hand." Elijah muttered; the doors opened a second later. Allen walked in holding a cup of water and fork. He handed Elijah the fork, and Grace the cup before taking Grace's old cup from her and hurrying out.
"Anyway, Michelle what about you?" I asked, Michelle paused her chewing looking up at the ceiling.
"I really don't think you guys want to know what I did today. The only man who was okay, was the man who accidentally conjoined him and his brother by the hips by using a bad body modification potion. I really don't know why people still try to use those. They never work." Michelle signed, before taking a large sip of her water.
"Babe, maybe we should give the troll body modification. He's kind of short to be a troll." Elijah smirked; Michelle laughed shaking her head.
"Somehow, I feel like you're going to be the one in my hospital after the troll catches you." Michelle said, Elijah scoffed.
"I would never."
"What about the burn marks I had to help you with after you gave an elf a bunch of matches."
"That was a bad call."
"Dad, I wanted to ask you something." I said, turning to my father. He whipped his mouth with a napkin and nodded.
"I want to invite Alexander to stay with us for a couple weeks." The table fell into a shocked silence. I had never willingly asked for Alexander to come here; he was always forced on me. My father raised his eyebrows, before putting his hand on my forehead.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Wondering if you have a fever." I scoffed smacking his head away.
"Dad, I'm serious. Is it okay for me to invite him, or no?"
"Of course it's okay. I'll call him right after-"
"No, that's okay. I want to call him." I said, Dad's eyebrows rose even higher, but he nodded.
"Guys...I think she's dying. Michelle go help her." Grace whispered, I glared at her.
"I am not sick!"
---
I took a deep breath, this was it. I was making the first step into accepting my relationship, even if it was five years too later. I sat on my bed, pressed the call button and brought the phone up to my ear. It rang three times before I heard Alexander's deep voice over the phone. It was his personal phone number that goes straight to him instead of being dispatched through a million people and spending an hour on the phone before speaking to him.
"Hello?" He said, his thick Scottish accent filled my ear.
"Hi Alexander,"
"Madeline. This is a surprise, lassie. You've never called me before." He said, I forced out an awkward laugh, I grabbed the same gold necklace I was wearing and twirled it around my fingers nervously.
"I know, I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize. It's okay. I think my fiancé should be able to call me without saying sorry. Is everything okay?" He asked, I nodded before remembering he couldn't see me.
"Yes, everything is fine. I was wondering though. If you had any free time so we can spend a couple weeks together." Did I sound nervous? I really hope I didn't.
"I would love too..." He laughed,
"Why do I feel like you're going to say but?" I asked, I leaned back against my headboard. This wasn't to bad.
"I was just thinking...why are you calling now? We've been engaged for years." He asked.
"I just...we're getting closer to the wedding-"
"We've always been getting closer to the wedding. Don't you think that we should have spent the last five years getting to know each other?" He asked, I signed.
"I know and that's my fault. But I want to try and make this work. I think I'm finally ready too. I'm sorry it took so long but I'm ready now, and I really want you to come here."
"Are you sure? You're not going to shut me out again, are you?" He asked, his voice laced with doubt. I looked down at my hands, guilt feeling my gut, he's always been so patience with me these last couple years. Never pushing me to try and become something that I wasn't ready for, but now I was, and I wasn't going to let him down again.
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Then I'll be there in a month." He said, I could practically hear the laugh in his voice. We talked for a few more minutes, and I promised him I'd call him again soon before he had to go. This was good, I needed this. But why did I still feel like I betrayed Draco by talking to my fiancé?
