"Is that what you said?" Scarlett spluttered, pulling the headphones down so that they cradled her neck.

Almost immediately, Sage's smile faltered a bit but she nodded regardless. Tears welled up in Scarlett's eyes, resting on her waterline.

"Oh my god." She said, her shaking hand coming up and covering her mouth. "Oh my god."

A feeling of uncertainty made its way into Sage's head.

Maybe this wasn't a good idea.

But her thoughts were quickly shut down when her mother pulled her into a tight hug. Sage tucked her face into the crook of her neck when her own tears threatened to fall.

"Oh my beautiful girl." Scarlett whispered, her voice wavering. "Thank you."

Frowning, Sage pulled back to look her mother in the eyes. "What for?"

A wet laugh escaped Scarlett's lips. "For today."

"No," Sage embraced the woman again, "thank you. Thank you for everything Mom."

Scarlett burst into another fit of tears and Sage felt her tears dripping into her hair. They held each other like that for a few moments before Scarlett managed to calm down.

"God Mom, you're such a crybaby." Sage smirked, standing up and holding out her hand for her mother to take.

She felt that she needed to lighten the mood, mostly because she hated awkwardness but also because she felt responsible.

Scarlett accepted her daughter's hand with a sniffle. "Oh shut up," she joked.

"Never, you're stuck with me like this now." The girl smirked while she dragged Scarlett upstairs.

"I wouldn't have it any other way."

After Scarlett had gotten ready for bed, she entered her bedroom to find Sage already lying in her bed.

"Hey Mom," Sage said, turning her attention away from her phone to look at her, "I'm staying with you tonight."

Smiling, Scarlett placed a kiss on Sage's forehead before getting in next to her daughter. "Good."

They fell into an easy conversation about their day. The girl queried about her Aunt Vanessa and Uncle Hunter and her other family. She wondered how her mother's other siblings were and Scarlett reassured her that she would meet them soon enough.

The conversation continued into books and why Sage loved the Harry Potter series so much.

"You know?" She said after a while. "I've never had someone read me a bedtime story."

Scarlett's eyes widened in shock. "Not even with your adoptive parents?"

"Nope, they just tucked me in."

The woman got up and rushed out to the small library they had downstairs. Confused, Sage pulled up her phone to pass the time. The first thing she saw when she clicked onto instagram was a photo of her and Scarlett walking into the mall they visited today. The caption under it read; "Scarlett Johansson spotted with teen girl. Possibly an older daughter we know nothing about?"

Sage smiled a little before putting her phone down again. She had made her first public appearance with her mother, and she didn't even feel bad about it. The media even thought she was her daughter. How her mother would explain her sudden reappearance was for her to figure out though.
