Camping

Enid.

I was last minute packing for a camping trip for science. I knew about this trip for weeks but of course, me being me I completely forgot until the day before. My parents were not so happy when I made them go up into the attic to get my sleeping bag at nearly 11pm at night.

I tried to pack as many not embarrassing clothes and so little things as there was no way I was carrying a heavy bag. I knew I'd end up forgetting something anyway so why bother.

I was dropped off by my parents, of course before I left the house there was a few tears but I told them not to be dramatic. It was a 2 day trip. They'll hardly even notice I'm gone since I spend most of my time at school everyday anyway.

Me, Liv and Yoko were all waiting in a line to find out our partners as we were on a list,  the people on the list got to choose a paper of someone who isn't on the list which were the partners we had to spend the whole trip with, meaning we were sleeping in the same tent as them, going everywhere with them even to the toilet at night, and also going on the coach with them.

We all received a piece of paper from the teacher standing at a table. We walked off as a group into an emptier space to open them. I unfolded my paper and saw "Divina" I sighed. I heard a sigh coming from Yoko as well. "Who'd you get?" I asked looking up.

"Some girl called Tia I don't know what that is though" Liv said.

"Wednesday Addams" Yoko said silently, not looking up from the paper in her hands.

"I got Divina"

Yoko's head immediately jolted up. Divina, the girl Yoko has had a crush on for the past 3 months. "Come on Enid you gotta switch with me". I whine in response. Me and Wednesday? No way.

"You could confront her about the party... or act dumb and wait for her to confront you".

I squinted my eyes and arched my eyebrow up at her. Yoko finally had a smart idea, for once. I held out my paper and we traded.

We then went back to the teacher to tell them who we got so that they could inform our partners when they arrived.

I watched as Wednesdays face dropped when talking to a teacher. My name could be noticed by their lip syncing. I see her suddenly shake her head and look very pleading. In which the teacher just looked away. She noticed me staring and smiled.

"Guess I'm stuck with you Sinclair" she said as she walked over to me.

Yoko and Liv giving us looks, which Wednesday noticed, making her pull a face at them. They immediately got the hint and walked away hand in hand.

"Are they together or something"

I jolt my head over to her. She starts giggling. In response I sent her a dirty look. "What?" She said smiling.

"Let's just go" I muttered as I walked away, making her follow behind me. First time I've ever seen her follow someone... and it's me.

We get onto the coach, I immediately put on my headphones blocking out the sound.. and Wednesday. She sits next to the window and I sit on the aisle. A 2 hour trip. With headphones at 60%. Will they last? Most likely not.

Around an hour into the journey I look over at Wednesday. She had fell asleep leaning against the window. Looking very uncomfortable. My instincts took control and patted just above her knee. She slowly opened her eyes at me.

I lifted up the arm rest in between us and patted my lap. She laid her head in my lap and lifted up her legs to lay down. My arms stayed above my waist not knowing where I should put them, she grabbed my hand and put one on her side and one on her hair. "Thanks" I heard her whisper before she turned her head in towards my stomach and closed her eyes. I looked around to see if anyone was noticing this interaction, which they weren't. Everyone was lost in their conversations and phones to care.

I smiled to myself. Maybe she was just waiting for the right time to bring it up.

We finally reached the campsite. I had woken up Wednesday around 10 minutes before we arrived so she didn't stress about rushing off the coach and so she could prepare herself. She thanked me again for letting her sleep comfortably before standing up and stretching.

We were one of the last ones off the coach because we were quite far back. I went to start walking out the door before I was stopped by a hand. "Hey Enid?"

I turned around to Wednesday who looked quite worried. "Yes Wednesday"

"Can we talk later?" I nod and see her smile. I gesture her to follow me as we get off the coach to find our backpacks. We followed everyone else until we found a spot for a tent.

"I'm not going to lie I have no clue how to put up a tent" Wednesday said as we put our bags in the floor.

I rolled up my sleeves and tied the front parts of my hair back.

"..yeah me neither" I said standing next to her.

Both of us staring down at the instructions of the tent. I look over at her and see her smiling. And we both burst out laughing.
