The next morning, we sat on the porch of the Château, still reeling from last night. Kie was trimming my hair and getting rid of all the burnt ends, while JJ played basketball with the rim above the door. We all just kind of, sat there, chilling; waiting to see where the day would take us.
"Okay, but regardless of Riley's injuries, no offense," Pope said, as he looked over at me. "Last night was epic." Epic in the way that Pope beat up Kelce in front of everyone, or epic in that my accident was the highest trending hashtag on Twitter right now? #KookFireFail.
"I mean, did you guys see Kelce's face? That's what I'm talking about, Pope." John B said, as he did a handshake with Pope.
"Bomb drop!" JJ cheered, as he dunked the basketball through the rim, and fell onto the couch, breaking it.
"Damn, another broken couch." I chuckled.
"You gotta sleep there." Pope sighed.
"I always sleep there." JJ replied, as Sarah walked through the porch door. JJ whistled over to John B and nodded towards Sarah. "Well, hello, princess." JJ scoffed.
"What's up?" Kie sighed, as she looked over at Sarah, before turning back to focus on my sad, crispy hair.
"Shouldn't you be on Figure Eight with your little group of polo players?" John B scoffed, as he lifted his arms behind his head, making sure to flex his muscles in the process. Sarah looked over at him, giving him a sarcastic smile. "Or did you break up with Topper?" John B winced.
"We're just friends." Sarah replied, turning to look over at Kie and I. Kie and I sat there, unsure of if she was being truthful or not, after last night, but maintained our composure and minded our business.
"Oh, he's just a friend." John B chuckled, as he looked over at Pope. "You have a lot of friends, Sarah Cameron."
"Yeah, and it seems like you've got some of your own too." Sarah snapped back. At this, I looked up at Kie and we made awkward eye contact.
"Alright, what're you doing here?" John B grunted, as he sat up in his scruffy chair.
"I'm here for Pope." Sarah sighed, as she transferred her gaze to Pope. We all turned to face Pope, confused looks on our faces. Pope looked over at JJ, clueless, before turning back to look at Sarah. "I think I found the island room." Sarah smiled. At this, we all sat up, eyes wide.
It wasn't long before we had all boarded into the Twinkie and headed towards Tannyhill.
"Guys, listen to this." Pope started, as he read a paper copy of printed pages from Denmark's diary. We found it safer to carry that around, rather than risk losing the actual diary. "The diary says the cross holds the most holy relic in all of Christendom, the Garment of the Savior."
"So wait, he's saying there's a holy garment inside the cross?" Kie asked.
"Yeah. It says the garment is capable of healing the sick from any malady." Pope replied, as he looked up at us.
"Mmm, yeah. 'If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.'" JJ quoted, as he shrugged and looked over at us. We all turned to face him, confused at what just came out of his mouth. "What? I went to Sunday school." He replied.
"Sure." Kie muttered, as I chuckled.
"Well, that explains why Limbrey would want the cross so bad." Pope sighed.
"She thinks it can heal her." I added, as I turned to face him.
"What else does it say?" Kie asked.
