Restless nights had become my unwelcome companions since that confrontation with Seojin. I toss and turn, haunted by visions of our heated exchange replaying in my dreams. Each morning, I wake gasping for air, heart racing against the lingering specters of my nightmares.

Lisa, ever perceptive, notices the change in me immediately. Over breakfast one morning, she reaches out and gently touches my hand, concern etched in the lines around her eyes. "You haven't been sleeping well," she observes quietly.

I manage a weak smile, the weight of exhaustion tugging at the corners of my lips. "Just work stress," I reassure her, reluctant to burden her with the truth.

As days stretch into weeks, my unease twists into palpable paranoia. Shadows seem to lurk around every corner, unfamiliar faces on the street becoming potential threats in my mind. At home, I upgrade security measures, adding motion sensors and reinforcing locks. Underneath my jacket, I carry a concealed weapon—a precaution I hope I will never need.

Lisa tries to reason with me, pointing out the irrationality of my uneasiness, but I can't shake the feeling that Seojin's reach extends further than I dare to imagine. "I can't take any chances," I insist firmly, my voice tinged with determination and cold.

Amidst the turmoil of my escalating paranoia, another unsettling development emerges. I begin experiencing episodes of lost time—gaps in my memory that leave me disoriented and anxious. It starts small—misplacing keys, forgetting appointments—but soon escalates into hours disappearing without explanation.

One day, Lisa finds me staring blankly at the wall, unresponsive to her calls. When I snap out of it, I can offer no explanation for the lost time. Lisa urges me to see a doctor, but I brush off the suggestion, unwilling to confront the possibility of deeper issues.

On a brisk autumn afternoon, a plain white envelope slides under my apartment door, shattering the fragile semblance of normalcy I cling to. Inside, a single sheet of paper bears a chilling message in bold, block letters:

Stay out of Seojin's business if you know what's good for you.

The threat is unmistakable, a sharp reminder that the walls I have built around myself are as fragile as glass. Panic grips my chest, squeezing the air from my lungs. I glance around the room, hyper-aware of every creak and whisper of the wind outside.

I read the letter aloud, my voice trembling with disbelief. "Lisa, look at this," I say, passing her the letter.

Lisa's eyes widen as she reads the threatening message. "Jennie, this is serious. We need to do something."

As I read the letter, a strange sensation ripples through me—a dissociative shift I can't control. Ruby emerges from the depths of my consciousness, her presence as chilling as a ghost's touch. She scans the letter with a detached amusement that sends shivers down my spine.

Ruby's voice echoes in my mind, cold and calculating.

They think they can scare us? How quaint.

Before I can protest, Ruby folds the letter neatly and slips it into her pocket, a sinister smile curling at the corners of her lips. We'll show them what happens when they underestimate us.

I struggle to regain control, my mind a battlefield where Ruby's calm defiance clashes with my own rising panic. I plead with Ruby to let me handle it, but her laughter echoes in the recesses of my thoughts, a haunting reminder of the darkness that lurks within.

Days pass, and the threat of Seojin's retaliation looms like a storm on the horizon. I find myself caught in a precarious balancing act—unable to ignore the danger, yet confronting it means risking everything I hold dear. Lisa stands steadfast by my side, offering unwavering support even as fear gnaws at her own heart.

In moments of quiet desperation, I find solace in the refuge of Lisa's arms, her touch a lifeline in the tumultuous sea of uncertainty. Together, we discuss strategies, weighing the risks and rewards with a clarity born of necessity.

But deep within my soul, Ruby lurks in the shadows, a reminder of the darkness that threatens to consume me. With each passing day, my grasp on reality slips further, my reflection in the mirror a fractured mosaic of identities warring for dominance.

One evening, as darkness settles over the city, Ruby's presence overwhelms me. I sit alone in the dimly lit apartment, watching shadows dance on the walls like ghosts of my own making. Ruby materializes beside me, her presence commanding and unsettling.

"We can't let Seojin and Menji threaten us like this," Ruby declares, her voice cold and determined.

I look up, meeting Ruby's intense gaze. "What do you mean, Ruby?"

Her lips curl into a predatory smile. "I mean we end this. Seojin won't stop until she's taken everything from us. Menji, too—he's a threat that needs to be eliminated."

My heart skips a beat at Ruby's words. I recoil slightly, unsettled by Ruby's ruthless determination. "But... what about lisa if she she know this?."

"We have to protect what's ours, Jennie," Ruby interrupts sharply. "Lisa belongs to us alone. Seojin and anyone else who tries to come between us—they're expendable."

Ruby's expression softens slightly, a dangerous glint remaining in her eyes. "Jennie, listen to me. Menji is already out of the country. She's not a threat anymore, not between Lisa and you. But Seojin—he's still here, still plotting. We can't afford to wait for her to strike again."

I swallow hard, understanding of Ruby's logic. "What do you propose we do?"

Ruby leans in closer, her voice a whisper that cuts through the silence like a knife. "Leave Seojin to me. I'll handle her, once and for all. You just focus on keeping Lisa safe."

A surge of conflicting emotions washes over me—relief that Ruby is taking charge, fear of what she might do, and a desperate need to protect Lisa from the escalating danger. "Promise me, Ruby," I say finally, my voice barely above a whisper. "Promise me you won't let anything happen to Lisa."

Ruby's smile widens, a chilling reassurance that sends a shiver down my spine. "I promise, Jennie. I'll take care of everything. I will kill him."

Days turn into restless nights as I wait, caught between dread and a fragile hope that Ruby's plan will succeed. Lisa senses my unease, her touch a soothing balm against the storm raging within me.

Then, one fateful night, the news breaks—a headline that sends shockwaves through the city. Seojin, the elusive figure who haunted my every thought, is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Ruby's presence looms over me, her satisfaction palpable even as I struggle to comprehend the magnitude of what has transpired.

In the aftermath, as I stand amidst the wreckage of shattered illusions, I realize some shadows are meant to be confronted, not feared. And though Ruby's methods were ruthless, I cling to the fragile hope that Lisa and I can finally find peace, far from the darkness that once threatened to consume us.
