I can't take them on my own.
I'm not the one you know.
I have killed a man and all I know
Is I am on the run and go.
I am up against the wall.
I hear them coming down the hall.
I have killed a man and all I know.
Is I am on the run and go.We brought Josh to FPE headquarters to help get him settled in.
He was quite overwhelmed by the noise and the fast pace of the city, he had never seen a car before, and while the only ones in Dema who owned them were the elites, it was still a shock to him when he saw the occasional one making it's way down the street.
But more than that, it was the saturated coloures, the perfect lines and white apartment blocks, the unatural layout and artificial feel of the city was uncanny and eeirie to him.
"There are no trees here" he had told me multiple times, and he wondered how we even stayed alive in this hellscape.
I wondered that too.
The more I looked at the city through his eyes, the more I relized that he was right, and the slight fondness I had towards Mulberry street faded.
For the first time in a long time, I wished to be in Trench again, the cold mountain breeze, the light misty rain that touched your face and let cool air into your lungs and nostrils.
The nights under the stars, the chill of the darkness pricking at your senses and making you feel alive.
The damp earth, after a good night's rain, and the way the sun touched the water during that warm September.
It all came flooding back, memories I had been blocking out for so long.
I'll return to Trench, my true homeland, if it's the last thing I do."How the hell did you manage to sneak in here?" I asked Josh as we finally all had the chance to speak, all six of us huddled around the table at FPE headquarters.
Josh told us about how he was now cheif of the Banditos, and I could feel a sense of awe in group as he spoke.
He told us about how he was now Torchbearer, and about how himself and Michael, another Bandito, have trained up a new generation of Banditos, ready to take on an army.
I rembember Micheal, he was cold and distant at the beginning, like all the other Banditos were, be he warmed up faster than most, and Josh spoke well of him.
Josh told us about how he managed to get into Dema.
He had gotten in the same way I had escaped, almost a year ago now, and the same way we got in when we stole the compass, on that famous day in October.
He had crawled trough the gutter, finding it much more difficult with his large wolf body then I had with my small fox one.
I wondered how Nico and the Bishops hadn't spotted Jason, the vulture that had accompanied Josh and was now sitting on my rooftop.
I hope they hadn't, and feared they had.
We told Josh about FPE, about Keons helping us fight Dema from the inside, about our radio show, and about our supporters who numbered over one hundred.
We had switched our radio show to a frequency that could only be picked up by specially designed radios made by Ned and Rozi, and that had been distributed amongst our followers.
In person meetings were far too risky considering our large numbers.
We were ashamed to tell him, that apart from the radios, we really hadn't manged to achieve anything, or even come up with a concrete plan on how we would go about taking Dema down.
Although, Ned and Rozi were working on a secret project that they wouldn't give us much information about.
Josh was disappointed that I had never thought the others to fight.
Fight the Bandito way, which I was no doubt quite rusty with myself.
but mostly Josh was just happy that I was doing alright and not rotting in a dungeon somwhere.
We talked all morning, Josh telling us about plans to attack Dema from the outside, and us telling him of ours to attack it from the inside.
By ten O' clock, our throats had become tired from talking and our stomachs had begun to rumble.
"How about I rustle us up some breakfast then?" said Juniper.
"I can give you a hand with that if you want" Josh suggested.
"Nothing better then joshes cooking!" I said, nodding at Juniper, who considered herself a pretty good baker.
"Well I wouldn't say I'm necessarily much of a chef..." said Josh shyly, and smiled an embarrassed smile I knew so well.
I was so happy to have him back, it didn't even feel real.
"okay... Let's all go back to my place then" Jenna suggested.
And we did.
We all sat around Jenna's kitchen table, while Josh and Juniper fussed around the kitchen.
I watched Josh breaking eggs into a pan, just like he did back at the Banditos camp.
It was hard to belive that he was now their chief... Or Torchbearer as he called it.
It's just like Josh to get rid of the word cheif.
