Peterson POV

I walked into the school hallways, my hands entwined with Kayla's as she beamed with joy. Being with me, she was confident in a way I had never seen before. She looked over at me and sighed as we approached our Economics class.

"See you later." She said looking down at her feet. I pulled her chin to look up at me and gave her a quick peck on the cheek. "See you later," I said.

She went in and I followed her. She went to sit with Morowa at the other end of the hall while I sat on my own took out my note and began to jot down what I understood. However, it was a bit of a challenge to focus because I was constantly glancing over at Kayla who seemed to be confused. I took a mental note to tutor her after the class. Suddenly, I heard Mr Warren call out to me. "Mr Russell. It seems your attention is too much for me to ask for now, is it?"

Trying to compose myself, I sat up and took deep breaths as I replied, "Absolutely not sir. I apologize."

"See me after class." He said, looking at me suspiciously, and continued with his lesson. Mr Warren was always the type to look after us and even though he never seemed like it, he always wanted the best for his students. I waited for the lesson to be over anxiously as I was pretty nervous about what Mr Warren had to say.

The class was over and everyone was stepping out. Everyone except me. I already texted Kayla that I'd be staying behind and she could go home. She said she would wait for me anyway and nothing I did could make her go home herself. I blushed as I remembered what she told me. My love for Kayla never left. It just suppressed with anger I felt when I discovered she had moved on quickly. But I was willing to give her another chance. She told me Isaac wasn't the reason she broke up with me and I believed her.

Like always, I was ready to wait for her till she felt comfortable enough to tell me she loved me too. I never wanted to rush her into anything. I was too well in love with her for that. I chuckled as I shook my head and thought of how much I was obsessed with her. Anyone who tried to take her away from me will pay.

Mr Warren sat in front of me after he had finished speaking to the last student who had a question for him after the lesson. He looked into my eyes and I could see concern.

"Hey, Dad," I said, looking back at my father who seemed to be at a loss for words.

"You're back together with Kayla aren't you?" He looked serious and scared. I knew why he was so afraid. It was because of my mom, Mrs Camilla Russell. The owner of Russell Enterprises and the husband to Mr Warren. My mom refused to take my dad's surname when they got married because of the company. She said her son would take her surname as well so I could take over the company someday. It was messed up.

My dad was a tenant at home and my mom gave all the orders. She was fearful. My dad was scared of me getting back together with Kayla all because of my mom who had plans to get me engaged to someone else solely for business purposes.

"You guys have to break up." My dad said. "You know what happened the last time, didn't you?"

The last time I announced Sarah and I were together, my mom threatened that if I didn't break up with her, she would make sure my dad got fired from my school. Of course, I didn't break up with her and my mom had let us go because in her words 'it is a mere infatuation.'
Now, that 'infatuation' has grown into love and nothing will make me end things with Kayla.

"I'll make it a secret, don't worry Dad." I tried to make him calm down, however the poor guy was far too interested in his job.

"Promise?"

"Promise."

And then we left. No one at school had to know that Mr Warren was my dad so we usually came with different cars and left that way.

Upon getting home, I tried my best to quietly tiptoe to my room. That was until my mom caught me.

"Peterson." Her voice echoed and hit me right in the face.

I stopped short and froze in my spot. "Mother." She was wearing a long white gown that stopped at her ankle. One would think she was a ghost. Her short brunette hair had been straightened and she held a wine glass in her right hand, sipping on it momentarily.

"You've been out late, any new company I'm not aware of?"

"None, mother."

"Good. I have booked a reservation at the finest restaurant in all of Los Angeles for you to meet Emily. She's the only daughter of the CEO of the Lawson group of companies." She said with such ease that it was so simple to sell off her only son for business. "Be there tomorrow at noon. I'll text you the address." She turned on her heels and exited the room.
