The bell echoed around the class hall and everyone stood from their positions, eager to escape class.
"And that's it, everyone! Please make sure to turn in your assignments first thing on Monday." The teacher finalized and took a final look at the class before turning on his heels and walking away. A sigh of relief was breathed by each student before packing up and exiting the hall. I looked over at Morowa, who was fast asleep beside me. I gently tapped on her wrist and she jerked up, unwillingly exiting her deep slumber.
"I wasn't asleep the whole lesson, you know?" She assured before packing up her things and took my hand before we rushed out the hall.
It has been one heck of a week!
After my surprise birthday party, my parents threw that night, Morowa called the following morning to apologize to me. She beat me to it anyway, I couldn't stand being mad at her. We made up and resumed our usual banter in less than a minute of exchanging apologies. As for Isaac, he made it known to me that he had a lot to say. However, I decided to not give him the chance this week. Morowa made me promise that for a whole week, I'd dedicate it to becoming a better best friend for her and Sarah.
Sarah has enjoyed her solitude these days, I suppose. She has been avoiding Morowa and I these days. I planned on asking her what was wrong, but I wanted to hear what Isaac had to say first. Peter- my boyfriend- soon to be ex, has been pining for me all throughout this week. It did satisfy a part of my ego to see that a guy could be that infatuated with me, but then again, he deserved better. I didn't love him as I used to. I had to explain that to him and my other friends who'd probably hate me for abruptly ending my relationship with Peter. I wasn't planning on dating Isaac immediately, I'd devote this time to focus on myself- despite being in a turmoil for long enough, I now know that my happiness does not and should not rely on two teenage boys.
Morowa and I sat in the bleachers, awaiting the basketball game. I was not a fan of sports, but Morowa put me up to this mostly because she had the most massive crush on Dylan. I sat and watched the ebullient field, students from my school sat on one end chanting my school's mantra and students from the opposite team sat on another end. The chants of two different school teams made the school field descend into a cacophony of mantras. I wanted to leave so bad but before I could make my arrangements to quietly escape this pep rally, the announcer disrupted my train of thought.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to tonight's highly anticipated matchup between your very own Wildcats and the visiting Thunderbolts! Get ready for a night of high-flying action and intense competition!"
The crowd erupted into cheers and the announcer continued. Perhaps our school's basketball team was the Wildcats given as everyone on our side of the bleachers chanted 'Wildcats, roar! Let's fight, unite and score!' Morowa chanted with the rest of the crowd and I gave her a hopeless but pitiful look.
"Let's make some noise as we welcome the teams to the court! First up, wearing the blue and silver, please give it up for the Thunderbolts!" Everyone on my school's side of the bleachers booed, including me. They were ridiculously dressed anyway. Who wears blue and silver?
The Thunderbolts jogged confidently, striding our school field and huddled up, giving each other determined nods as they went to their side of the field. The mix of friendly cheers from their home crowd made me gag in disgust.
I guess this game wasn't as bad as I thought.
"And now, let's hear it for the Wildcats!" The announcer said in delight as it was his own team.
The gymnasium shook with the roar of the crowd as the Wildcats took the court, their red and white jerseys gleaming under the bright lights. Among them, I spotted Dylan and Isaac sharing a confident fist bump, ready to lead our team to victory. I also recognized a few other faces from our school including Willy- who was the shortest and the rest were bulky looking students who intimidated me more than anyone.
The game started off immediately as a battle. The opposing team seemed relentless, determined to win this game but I smirked, knowing and trusting in my school's team. With a quick crossover, Isaac blew past the opposing team's defender and passed the ball to Dylan, who dribbled passed the Thunderbolts and scored a point.
The crowd erupted in cheers as the announcer took the mic. "Isaac with the steal and the three! This kid is on fire! And Dylan with that monster dunk—these two are unstoppable tonight!" He hyped and the crowd continued to cheer as Isaac and Dylan shook hands, preparing themselves to shoot the final point and lead our team to victory.
The Thunderbolts seemed mad, judging by their failed attempts to dribble past our players. A Thunderbolt successfully stole the ball from Dylan, dribbling as he made his way to the basket, eager to score. Just then, Willy stepped out from nowhere, jumping higher than one can imagine and blocked the point. Stealing the ball, he passed it to Isaac, who dribbled effortlessly and...
"Isaac with the game-winning shot! The Wildcats have done it! What a finish! Isaac, Dylan and Will lead their team to victory in one of the most thrilling games we've seen all season!"
The crowd chanted their names in jubilation as Isaac and Dylan made their way to the bleachers and everyone rushed to get a hold of them. Confetti and celebration music filled the court, and I ran down the bleachers to meet Isaac. Morowa did the same to, just as I expected.
Isaac spotted me and I threw myself in his arms as he spun me around.
"You did so well Isaac! Congratu-" I was cut short by Isaac, who crashed his lips on mine, kissing me with such a passion I couldn't resist. I kissed him back, tangling my fingers in his buzz cut. He deepened the kiss, grabbing onto my waist and pulling me closer to him.
"What the hell, Kay?"
We were caught by... Peter.

I am not really big on sports so I hope I wrote this well. Do you think Kayla should break up with Peter?
